Default Question about the Customer Support Program ZLZ

Greetings, I reside in Collierville, TN (suburb of Memphis); and I wanted to inquire about the processes of having my Lexus LS460 assessed due to the information that was shared in a notice published by LexusClub.

Hi Pointer,
Welcome to CL. What is your question? You can register your car on the Lexus Driver site and check whether there are any active recalls on it to be fixed under warranty. The ZLZ Customer support program may refer to the free replacement of sticky dashboard, door panels, center console and glove box on many 2007-2012 vehicles. If your car exhibits any stickiness or chalky appearance in any of these panels, take it to your local Lexus dealer and ask whether your car qualifies for replacement of these parts.

If you're inquiring about the ZLZ interior warranty I personally recommend for you to call Lexus corporate first and then let them schedule the appointment at your local Lexus dealer so your dealer takes it serious and knows you are dealing with corporate already. Some dealers can be difficult with follow through.

nice advice. I might need to try this. I don’t want the dealer to give me any grief. I frankly don’t have the patience to deal with them giving me the runaround even once.

Exactly. There are a wide range of dealers. Some have even replaced with it barely damaged or melting and others are more difficult.

Lexus Corp ultimately makes the final decision; however they also rely on the dealers to evaluate the condition of your interior. The ideal procedure is to contact Corp to see if your VIN is eligible. If it is, they'll advise you to contact your dealer for a service appointment. The service technician will evaluate your vehicle's interior, and your service advisor will send the results to Corp along with their recommendation. My advice is to point out the defects to your service advisor, and hopefully they will give the information to the technician.

I did exactly that with my wife's 2008 LS460. They replaced the entire dash, lower panels, glove box, and center console panels within two weeks. The dealer originally did not recommend the door panels. I called Corp, they told me I need to point out the defects to the service department. The service department should evaluate them and submit their recommendation to Corp. Corp approved it immediately upon submission.

We are still waiting on the door panels to come in. We've been advised they have seen the door panels come in as soon as a month, up to a year or two; some customers are still waiting. I'm assuming availability is based on color combinations.

Any idea why some VINs are not eligible? My dealer said that mine isn't, but they'll do their best.. My dash & all other panels are horrendous.

Because your car missed the first round a few years ago. If you didn't own it back then the owner didn't know or try. You probably be out of luck.

Yours appears to be an 07. If you're having the issue I would keep pressing Lexus Corporate. They know even if your VIN isnt qualified that you have the issue. I am sure they will make it right if you escalate the case even if it's a goodwill repair.

While the dealership response may be variable, and that is troublesome to be sure, I believe what is extraordinary and unique among premium brand manufacturers, is that Lexus firstly, rather than demonstrate indifference, had the integrity to acknowledge a quality gap, and secondly, many years after warranties have expired, demonstrated a willingness to fund replacement of parts and labor, at a cost of ~$10,000-$12,000/car, invested hard cash in the integrity of the brand.

I can’t think of even one other example where any manufacturer spent hard cash to correct a defect other than when forced to because of a threat to safety.

In contrast, A class action lawsuit was required, for example, to make Porsche accountable for defects in materials (porous engine blocks) and engineering (IMS and RMS bearings) in its 996 models, resulting in instances of total engine failure.

thank you Lexus!

We bought our 2011 in 2016 as CPO. Took it to dealership in 2017 for the same issue. Initially they refused saying VIN does not qualify but during next few months it was approved and these were replaced in early 2018. Involve Corporate if dealer refuses to do the replacement.

Thanks, I will. Dealer called yesterday and said that my VIN doesn't match, and that there is nothing that they can do.

I pushed Corp twice and refused me twice. Said if the dealer when i had dash done had even mentioned door panels they would have approved them under ZLZ. But my arm rest are leather and sticky door fix solved the upper parts. So all is good for me.
