Default High Mileage 2007 LS460

Hey all,

I’m new here and I was hoping to get your guys’ opinion. I am looking into getting a car. 07 LS460 with about 150k miles are going pretty cheap and I really want one. But I’m slightly(not really) concerned about the reliability and repair expenses. Would you guys advise me to stay away from high mileage LS?

FYI: I purchased a 2007 LS460 in 2013. It was CPO and had 48,000 miles. I drove it till 105,000 miles and sold it in 2016. The car was rock solid. The only thing it needed in that time was spark plugs and a control arm. 750i and s550 owners would feel like they’re in heaven if that’s all they needed repaired in their car over a 60k mile period. Both of my repairs were covered under the CPO warranty and even those happen to the second LS I buy, I’ll be okay with it. I can’t imagine those being too expensive to repair.

I know the guy who purchased my LS460 and he’s at 180,000 miles and he said the car has been far more reliable than any full size luxury car should be. I’ve owned a ES and GS as well and those were also trouble free. However, all the Lexus’ I purchased previously were relatively low mileage and now I’m looking into high mileage because they are significantly cheaper and I have a feeling that they won’t cost me a fortune in repairs. I am expecting some repairs if I buy a high mileage LS, but I’m not expecting $3000 in repairs annually. I drive about 15k miles a year now. I used to drive about 30-40k miles a year and that’s why I got rid of the LS in the first place. No car can match the feeling I got from driving the LS460. It may not be as flashy or fast as a 750li and S550, but I’m not after a flashy car. I just want a car that feels at home.

seems like your $$ repair sensitive.

if so probably makes more sense picking up a good example high mileage 2008-2010 es 350

repairs will be much lower if needed with high mileage

Unless you're strapped for cash, I'd step up the game and find a 2010-2012. They have a few more current features like bluetooth audio, and can be found with decent miles. Also, most of those cars have fewer issues than the 07-09 model run.

150k is high mileage?

More like over 300,000 to me would me

at only 150k I would pay attention to your suspension components, control arms, shock, have them all checked for bushing cracks and shocks leaking now

tranny fluid drain and fil, differentia, plugs, brake fluid, etc

otherwise mileage means nothing

I would not hesitate to buy a high mileage LS as long as it's at the right price. Just make sure to check to make sure it has a good service history and note any complaints the previous owner had with the car. A PPI would be your best friend to check out the suspension on a lift. Of course at that mileage it might need some maintenance but as long as it's nothing major I wouldn't be concerned. You owned one already so you know the potential problems.

As Sha4000 stated, I wold not hesitate, provided the price was right. My 08 was dead reliable for the entire 130k miles or so that I owned it. When I traded it in, I could have just as confidently sold it to a family member.
