upper $40's to mid $50 is what I saw yesterday

 

wow....They went up compared to few months back i saw few in 38-45k range

 

i saw a couple in the lower $40's but they where higher miles

 

and the ones in the lower 40's were body damaged....i checked for months....
i ended up buying a 07 certified one from dealer with 42000 miles for 43k

 

Hold on guys....you wanna tell me I can't buy 2007 LS460 ( NAVI/ML ) with no more than 30K miles for no more than $45k assuming it's a clear one owner car with no damage ? I don't believe it, but if it's true - I'll buy used S550 for these money.
Very strange market now.

 

I purchased a 2007 LS460 w/ navi+ML, door closers, et al, for 41k certified from Manchester NH Lexus in dec. It was a harsh winter there and a RWD LS was not a favorite on the menu (not to mention the economy as well). I searched far and wide and found this with 34k miles at that price. I couldn't find anything else close. The vehicle was darn near flawless (CPO is not new of course). I tried so hard to not have to fly to NH to get my vehicle, but I couldn't find anything else near this with the accouterments to price ratio. She's been a gem.

 

WOW..CPO , $41k - great price..congrats. How do you like it ? Any wind noise problems like evybody talking about ?

I do hear some wind but it's really not the end of the world. The overall features/comforts of the vehicle more than make up for the issue. Am I really looking forward to a true fix, yes, but I'm not letting it get in the way of my enjoyment. The stereo, the ride, the acceleration, the fit and finish (sans glove compartment), the materials... All I can say is ahhhhh. Even the gas mileage is worlds better than the competition!

It's like anything else. One could go from an econobox to a LS. Initially it's shangri-la, but we quickly acclimate and then nit pick. People that get into my car on a regular basis remark at the quiet atmosphere and amazing functionality that surrounds them.

Lastly, I went to my LS from a 1998 Acura 3.2tl (that I still own and drive to less desirable locations). She has 170k on her and I still obsessed about this purchase. I lost sleep in fact. Then I did it! And the rest is happy history (thus far).

 

I'm driving MB E350 right now and I like this car, but this is second E350 I leased and I wanna move for something else. I don't wanna lease anymore, because of current market conditions. I see the best way is to buy 2 year old car and drive it for couple years ( may be more ). I'm thinking about S550 or LS460. Both of those cars are very nice and each of them have their own pluses and minuses, but I know that nobody can't beat Lexus in reliability, so I'm thinking more about Lexus.

I hate to hex myself, but my neighbor runs the loaner service at a major NJ MB dealer and tells me sooo many horror stories... The most recent one was that they haven't had enough loaners to support the issue load and have been using compact cars from a neighboring dealer to fill the gap. She asked me to imagine what her day is like when she has to tell people that their S550 et al, plagued with issues, will be in the shop and they have a (insert low budget asian loaner car here) as a temporary replacement.

A really funny recent story centered around people not being able to shut off their S and CL model vehicles. They'd have to drive them to MB to have the battery cable removed to reset the system.

Again, I fear issues coming to my girl as a result of this message. Please say a prayer for her .

 

There are less issues with S550 now then there were in the past. MB S class is more reliable now, however, if aeggroup is considering a purchase of a used s550, I would strongly encourage a purchase of an extended warranty. I believe they are in the $3 - 5 K range. If purchasing LS460, no such warranty is needed. Price of a used LS and a used S should be about the same, however, because of reliability issues with a used MB, demand for those cars is less then for LS, therefore, some times you will see a price difference.

Having MB for lasr 6 years I'm a little tired of visiting MB service department.
My first E350 - engine was changed after 9 months of lease.....my second MB has strange noise from the back and dealer does not know what it is. They are saying it's probably rims, but they not covered by warranty....
I don't even wanna bother them for check engine or ESP light when it goes on and off whenever it wants ))

 

If you check CarMax prices, you will see that a low mileage (less than 30K) LS460 lists for about $48K. A 2007 S550 with less than 30K miles is around $53K. There will be some variability with equipment but the used S550 is still around $5K more. New, the difference was more like $10K.

I was recently reading an comparo article from a while ago (barber shop) and they cited the S550 base as 10k more. Compare a reasonable amount of options and you're probably 20k more new.
