Default Need help on these 2 ls460. Please help

I have my eyes on 2 cars which both seem like a great deal and need help deciding which one is better for my needs.

1. 2007 lexus ls460 with 42k miles, single owner babied at dealership for 15k. No air shocks and rear wheel drive. White

2. 2007 lexus ls460 with 109k miles, 3rd owner clean carfax for 10k. No air shocks and rear wheel drive. Black

I rely on independent mechanic and generally get all my work there for cheap. Never go to dealership for repairs. Which car would you guys recommend?

This is my 1st post to the forum so pardon me if it's in wrong section.

Thank you

All things being equal, I would tend to gravitate a bit more to the lower-mileage LS. I think there will be some negotiating room on the $15k price, also. Either would likely make a great used car, though repairs can get pricey, especially if you aren't a DIY person. I do value a single-owner car vs multi-owner, also. Perhaps you could provide more info so forum members have more to go on to provide good advice? Repairs already made to both cars, like control arms, brake actuators, ML amps, etc.?

The only noticeable repair done on 109k miles car is wind noise resolution. Dealer did install some foaming to fix the noise. Some idler pulley replacement and regular oil changes.

The other car with 42k miles has hardly any work done on it. Just regular dealership visits for routine maintenance. 15k is the final price on this car.

I personally think buying ls460 with 109k miles for 10k sounds better deal. Knowing that lexus lasts longer and it sounds better when you consider spending 10k for 11 year old car vs spending 15k for half the mileage.

But interested in knowing thoughts from other folks

The extra money for the lower mileage single owner car likely would be money very well spent IMHO.

65k miles is a good six years worth of driving for me, so I'd definitely go for the car with lower miles. It also has 65k miles less wear and tear on the suspension.

I would check the history on the higher mileage car. Most likely the common issues that come up have already been addressed vs the lower mileage car.

The higher mileage car doesn't show that brake actuator, control arm bushings, sticky dashboard has been noted anywhere as being worked upon. So is the case with lower mileage car. Unless the owners has these things done at independent mechanic.

Two weeks ago I bought a 2007 LS 460L, with 81, 000 miles, from the original owner with a complete service history. It has the original control arms, starting to show some bushing fatigue, but fully functional. The brake actuator has never been touched, but doesn’t make a sound. The ML sound system works perfectly, and has never been touched. Dash is perfect, door panels are leather covered and beautiful. Everything I anticipated being a problem wasn’t. What did fail was the Hard Drive for the navigation, which I never really considered. Seems you never hear the shot that gets you. You never really know how long these things will last, but hopefully the problems don’t come in bunches. My car is beautiful, and by far, the most comfortable functional car I’ve ever had. As old as it is, it still looks like an $80, 000 car, that I’m driving around for a small fraction of that price. Well worth the hassle of these inevitable repairs. Any 12 year old car is going to need repairs, but I believe your odds of less will be much better with that one owner cream puff.
What ever your choice, good luck!

The one with 42k will cost less in the long run and is a better choice.

I paid $11,000 for my 07 with 105,000 miles on it last February. I immediately put another $1000 into it with four new tires and new front brake rotors and pads.

So, I think you paying 10k for about the same miles is a very good deal, and 5000 less than the dealer wants on the same car but lower miles.

To me mileage means little, the engine on these cars is good for some 400,000 miles. Take the black one and save 5k and use it for for any updates, work, etc

Thank you for the insights. So how has been your experience with your car with 105k miles. Was there any other repair done after 1k job?

$5k for 65k less miles, plus one owner? That's money well spent! Plus, this is strictly my opinion but the white paint will be much easier to maintain than black which is a swirl mark showing PITA.

HI Lexus4185, that price you are quoted at 10k is very, very good. No, I have not had any issues at all since I bought mine
10 months ago. I knew that when I paid only $11,000 back then that it was a very good price and that I would need to put on new tires, new front brake rotors and pads.
What I did do was to take mine to a good experienced mechanic I know and had him do an analysis.
He said the control arms, bushings, and motor mounts, rear shocks, all checked out very good.
This was my biggest concern as that can be a fast couple of thousand dollars to fix, I suggest you let the seller allow you
to drive the car to get these things checked out.
I know that at some point in the future, maybe many more miles, I will want to put on a new starter, water pump, etc.
I have the oil, 0-20 full syn, changed every 7500 miles. I did just last week have Discount Tires put on new TPMS on each wheel because the original batteries had to fail very soon.
They charged me $60 for each wheel to do so. I honestly don't see any more expense coming up for many more miles.
I did have the differential oil changed recently at 110,000, that was pretty cheap to do. And I will soon enough have the
tranny fluid drained of some 3 quarts and refilled, not doing the total "flush" procedure because from what I read this
can dislodge metallic bits that can maybe chew up things in the tranny. And that is it.
By the way, I have owned many new Cadillacs, BMWs and Mercedes and this Lexus beats them all in riding comfort.
I just came home from the store, loving the heated steering wheel and heated seats, the soft ride still impresses me!
