TPMS Gone Bad
So I went to drive the LS today after our trip up from Bella Vista to Geneva Friday and one of my TPMS just keeps showing checking. I know it is not the spare because I keep that tire inflated just a little more than the rest. No low tire lights are showing up on the dash it just keeps showing checking. I drove the LS 4-5 miles so I know that it should have heated up and moved on. Given that it is a 2010 I guess the battery could have gone south. Are the batteries replaceable or will I need to replace all 5 sensors with new ones?

"Checking" is not a low pressure problem, it is a non-reporting sensor problem, probably due to a defective sensor. Sensors fail for a variety of reasons, one of them being depletion of the sensor battery and is likely the cause of your problem. If you drive the car for more than 20 minutes you will get a system failure warning. Tire dealers, like Costco and Sam's Club, are a good place to get help with this sort of problem. If you know that all your sensors have been in service about the same length of time, about 8 or 9 years if yours are the originals, then replacing all 5 might be the least inconvenient thing to do and the best thing to do if you are planning to keep your car for a while.

Can you get them changed at Costco? Will they have the right ones in stock for the LS? Can they reprogram them for the LS without a trip to the dealership? Stopping at the New Costco in N KC on the way back to Bella Vista Friday. Need to make a Scotch and Wine run as we have no Costco's in Arkansas. Any Ideal what the sensors run cost wise at Costco? I just turned 75K on the clock and I have had it since it came off lease for the most part so I am guessing they are all original. With only 75K on the clock I don't plan on getting rid of it any time soon. At 68 I am hopping it out last me.

I think any Costco should be able to do a turnkey job for less than $50 per wheel. Keep in mind you will get system failure warning if you drive more than 20 minutes with failed sensor.

When you say system failure warning I assume you mean that I will get some type of light on the dash indicating a problem? However this will not disable the car and stop me from driving it? As I indicated earlier I will be stopping at the Costco in N KC which is 225 miles away on the way home. Just to make sure I understand Costco will be able to program the new sensors to the LS?

Dennis,
The TPMS warning will just be a visual warning - no annoying sounds - and will reset each time you restart your car. You will not be able to see the pressures from the other four wheels while the system is in the alarm state.
TPMS is mandated for all new cars sold in the USA, and has been for more than 10 years. All tire dealers have to be able to do all phases of the TPMS repair, as to wheel sensors and programming them into the car's system, if they want to stay in business. There should be many options including Costco and Sam's Club and Lexus dealers. Toyota dealers are also a source and likely less expensive than Lexus dealers. The Lexus dealers are probably the most expensive for this type of service.

Discount Tires replaced 2 of my TPMS sensors and programmed them using a hand-held electronic tool.
Pretty quick, took maybe ~15 minutes.

Taking LS into the Costco in Lincoln, Nebraska on Thursday morning. New sensors $44.99 each plus $14.00 per tire to demount/mount and balance. $60.07 per tire out the door. A second tire started showing "checking" for an extended period of time before showing a psi number. That was after driving 12-14 miles but then after turning the car back off while we were having lunch it is back to "checking" for 2 tires now, so I am thinking the batteries are starting to go south.

Yep. One of mine died in Aug. Replaced the main 4 at Discount tire. Did not do the spare. I think they are all original from 07. They also rotated and balanced the tires too. About $60 per tire or so.

Update
So I was on my way to Costco in Lincoln, Nebraska today to have all 5 TPMS changed because one was staying on checking. So I had not driven more than 8 or 9 miles straight since arriving in Geneva last Friday when 1 of the sensors was stuck on checking. After I had driven about 16 or 17 miles the sensor that had been stuck on checking started showing the tire psi. I drove another few miles and pulled over shut the car off let it set and restarted the engine and that sensor popped right up and started showing the tire pressure. I droved into Lincoln about 44 miles shut the car off at Costco restarted and it showed all 5 psi numbers. While I was waiting for Costco to open I called my service guy at Lexus of Omaha which is where I get the LS serviced when I am up visiting my sister in Omaha. He said if the light was not lit on the dash not to worry about it that it might have been some como glitch with the sensor. So needless to say I keep the $300 in my pocket made a Scotch/Wiine run at Costco and came on back to Geneva which is 65 miles SW of Lincoln. Heading back to Bella Vista in the morning so will see what happens. All 5 sensors seem to be working fine now.
