Anyone have any information or even rumor about an eight cylinder coming back to the LS? The September 2018 Consumer Reports did a short review of the LS 500, not real good. They say the the turbo V6 is strong when the drivers push hard, but that it doesn't feel powerful in everyday driving. There were a few other negative comments saying that if drivers wanted what the LS used to deliver they should consider the more satisfying Genesis G90.
I didn't think dropping the V8 was a good idea.
Thought they might be developing an new V8 and it would appear later.
If there is a V8 LS, it will only be in a super sporty LS-F version. I would be very surprised if there was an "ordinary" or "luxury" trim version of the LS with a V8.
The reason I like driving the ls460 IS the low rpm torque setup of the powetrain. Ten years later the smog standards may have necessitated a different power curve. Less emissions in the current EPA drive cycle testing? Old test did not have a full throttle test as far as I know
Thats not a new engine, that engine has been around a long time, and was out in the RC-F. GS-F and the LC before the 5LS was released. The TTV6 is meant to be the replacement for the V8 in the Lexus lineup. Lexus could have easily chosen to put that engine in the 5LS and chose not to.
I do think we will see a new TTV8 from Lexus, and my guess is we will see that in the LC-F and an LS-F.
My 2010 LS600hL has a 5.0 v8... I think that engine has been around a while. I do love it, by the way, and wouldn’t want to switch to a v6 TT. I talked myself into an IS350C to replace my beloved SC430 a couple of years ago, captivated by the specs and modern upgrades. One of my worst mistakes!
I am a new Lexus guy. Help me understand where a 2014 417 hp is-f is the same engine as the 471 hp current motor.
you know for sure the internal parts are all the same? Versus just the displacement. Show me the parts list so I can learn at the feet of the gurus?
I added to my post above. Yes I am 100% sure, its the same engine. They make tweaks and changes to the engines as time goes forward, but that doesn't make it a "new engine". Its also the same basic engine thats found in the LS600h, just with some tuning and structural differences, and is the same basic engine family as the 1UR-FSE 4.6L V8 found in the LS460. The TTV6 in the LS500 is an all new engine, that V8 is not.
Show you the parts list? I'll pass thanks.
Like you said, you're a new Lexus guy...we're not...and we know what we're talking about.
This is the screen shot I added to the post above:
The different power ratings to us unwashed would have me dig into a oem parts book to compare the part numbers internally.
yoy all know for sure every part is the same? Not the nomenclature. Where does the “new” start?
cams, pistons, ECU, manifolds, heads, block, crank all could and probably are different and match the description.
just saying. I build off road race motors and the cases are the same but every other part but one trans shaft and the bare head are different in 10 different models and displacement.
the idea that “tweaking” can go from 389 and 417hp to 471 in a later tougher smog compliance era is a stretch.
Wanna bet other than the bare castings every other part is changed?
although 12.3 Cr bump shows the pistons are for sure different.
hate generalities without facts.
Been through this for 50 years building engines.
At this point I would niormally start looking at the various fiches just so I know.
not germsin to me.
Funny enough the v6 has much more torque than the v8 over a wider rpm range.
i wonder what consumer reports did not like in the around town drive review versus the old ls460 enough to suggest the g90?
Buddy, it’s the same engine. Fact. No generalities here, that’s a fact and i posted the source to back me up. Whether or not you build engines is meaningless, the information is straight from Toyota...it’s the same engine. The IS-F, RC-F, GS-F and LC500 all use the same engine, the 2UZ-GSE. Manufacturers make tweaks to engines here and there, but that doesn’t make the engine a new engine whether every part is exactly the same or not. Beyond that All the “UZ” engines are all related.
Of course the TTV6 makes more torque across a broader range, it’s a twin turbo vs the V8 which is normally aspirated. Turbo 6s and V8s have a different feel, V8s are smoother, if you drive the 500 and the 460 you can feel that as well.
