Ticking Noise
#16
Mine is the same! Louder inside than outside the cabin. I guess its another thing to take up with Carmax/Lexus.
Sadly enough, I'm happy I'm not the only one with this problem. My Lexus has 58K miles and has had the sound pretty much since I've had it.
jmcraney, I'll give a look at the link you shared. Thank you.

This link might be interesting as to piston slap: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-...e-in-idle.html

Thank you for posting about this. I also have this issue with my 2013 GS 350 FSport. I did go to another dealership and drove another similar vehicle and noticed it did not have this issue.

I think my ticking noise is finally resolved.
Mine sounds like a bad lifter used to sound in US cars. I only hear it at idle, very distinctly in the cabin.
The first Lexus dealer I took it to said it was drivers side fuel pump, replaced it and as I drove away the noise was still there. They have not been helpful since.
took it to a newly opened Lexus dealer in the area (great!), they heard the noise and said it was the same fuel pump again. They replaced it and said the noise is history. I pick up the car tomorrow.
Just something to check if anyone else is having this issue.

Well, the noise is still there, sounds slightly different, but it's still clacking.
The shop foreman at this excellent Lexus dealer heard it again, and said it is a known issue at Lexus that the fuel pumps can generate noise from the pump riding on the upper cam lobe (or maybe it's an excentric). Maybe the lever is riding up off of the lobe and tapping when it settles back onto it. I asked about potential long term damage to the cam and he said no, it has the oil barrier protection.
They are keeping the car and checking with the Lexus technical people on what else, if anything to do about it.
This is the first time I heard of a Lexus dealer mentioning this anywhere, for what it's worth.

What was the verdict on this? I just purchased a '15 GS350 Fsport and am hearing possibly a similar tick when at idle.

You can't compare a GS350 to an LS460. Ls460 has a V8 so it will be quieter from the start, Ls460 has fuel pump covers and they will fit over the GS350. It did for my 2007. It helped muffled the noise slightly

Whats interesting is this does vary from car to car. My 2017 is much quieter than my 2015 was...

My experience with the new Lexus dealer in the area was going much better than the first one.
After replacing the drivers side fuel pump and noise still there, the first dealer shop foreman mentioned possible piston slap, along with normal pump and injector noise. They said they would let me know when the regional Lexus rep was in town to check it out. ....Radio silence and lack of responsiveness, so that dealer is history for me.
The new dealer heard the noise, replaced the drivers side pump again, but the noise still remained with little variation. The noise is intermittent, not always present. After checking the car out again and discussing with Lexus engineers (per the dealer), they stated that the noise is from the fuel pump riding on the cam and coming up off the lobe a bit and clacking when it comes back down. If these fuel pumps are anything like US car pumps, they have an arm that rides on an eccentric on the front of the cam, maybe lobes in the Lexus.
They said that it will not do any good to replace the pump(s) again, this is a known issue that will not harm the engine in the long run. Sounds like it could be a potential wear issue problem to me over the long haul.
So, I have left it at that for now. If the noise still bothers me and persists, then I will go back for round two.

Yeah, not at all...

Nope, not at all that bad. That one looks and sounds like it has been ridden hard and put up wet.
Mine sounds like a single bad lifter that you can hear in the cabin. Not real noisy, but you can definitely hear it at idle only while in drive.

That sounds normal for the car.
