Buying extended warranty?
Yes, the LS is as expensive as german cars to maintain and repair.
In the past, there were countless times on my 3 Mercedes where $3-grand+ was a normal repair bill. So at roughly the same amount (around $3400) for an EIGHT-YEAR warranty on my CPO LS, it was a no-brainer to get it.
Not only that, the list of exclusions in the Mercedes 3-year warranty was for all sorts of things (such as the entire audio and navigation system and all sorts of electronics). I was actually astounded that Lexus would cover the audio system for all 8 years.

Technically, you can only buy a Lexus extended warranty on a car that is still under the original factory warranty or, if out of warranty, if it was bought at a Lexus dealership. But if you go to your local Lexus dealer and ask for the finance manager, he may sell you one. You're probably looking at about $2500 - $3000 for a 3/36 warranty.
I had 2 incidents where the car died on me; battery failure and "coolant valley leak". Both times the dealer said that the Lexus road service does not apply to repairs under the extended warranty and I was on my own. I called AAA it turned out that the operator also handles the Lexus road service calls. I
If the extended warranty is a Lexus Platinum extended warranty, it includes roadside assistance. It includes hotels, meals, rental car/transportation ("trip interruption"). Look at the paperwork you got with your warranty.
Update : one local Lexus dealer said they can't sell me the extended warranty because my car is older than 5 years and miles > 50000.
Contact another Lexus dealer and they haven't get back to me yet

Who are you speaking to for these warranties - the Finance Manager (don't speak to anyone else)? If all else fails, call Toby Rivers at Lexus of Shreveport. He may be able to help you.
Scheduled maintenance is more or less the same. Some are more expensive.. ie: a transmission flush on the LS is going to be much cheaper than a transmission flush on a German counterpart. Parts are typically more expensive for the German counterparts as well, what stays relatively the same is dealer labor costs. All in, it is more expensive to maintain an A8, S-Class and definitely the 7-series in comparison to the LS. It doesn't help that the Germans like putting cheap "It'll always fail" parts in very hard to reach places. I remember paying over $1k to replace a $15 seal on my first A6.
With a Lexus warranty, any Lexus dealer in the US can do work on your car and the warranty will be honored.
It's for all the services for 30,000 miles from purchase. That's for 6 service appointments, 1 every 5000 miles or 6 months. Yes, I bought it when I purchased the car. Yes, it's a Lexus product.
The 2008 I just purchased from Northside Lexus has 67k miles on it, I got them to offer me a 4yr 48,000 mile warranty for $2,830. It covers everything except items such as brake pads, maintenance, etc. The controls arms/bushings ARE covered!
. Everything is negotiable, mine was obviously "out of factory warranty". It's not a factory Lexus warranty, but its through the only third party company they claim they will issue with (best supposedly). These guys are it:
