Default Brake clicking....

Hey all,

I seemed to develop what seems like a slight warp in a rotor, as I am getting a vibration on stopping (I've hand rotors go before and it's got the same feel). Also, I noticed, that if I push the pedal to the floor, I get a clicking sound coming from under the hood. I checked if it's at the wheel but, it's coming from under the hood. Normal driving I do not hear the clicking, only when I push the petal down to the floor (hardest that it can go down) and in park in the driveway, I can repo it every time. No CEL, or other hidden codes showing up in techstream.

This car had to have a wheel bearing swapped out, on the drivers side front, with this the brake was off 3-4 times (long story), so the warped rotor could be part of this but, the click is NEW. This was off via a back yard attempt (non pro) and even a pro.

I am hoping this is not a brake actuator, as most of the threads are claiming a CEL comes up for a point, I have never seen a CEL based on something with the breaks or any other CEL on this car now that I think about it.

IS there something I should try before going down the brake actuator road ?

Well, it could be something that just developed co-incidentally now (everything has to start at some point). Ordinarily, I would say check the calipers are moving smoothly on the slide pins but as you say it doesn't come from the wheel area, it could be the actuator. Have you checked for any codes?

The sound does not come from the wheel.

I have checked Tech Stream, There are no codes that come up. I've done the full check and nothing referring to breaks come up (some calibration updates are due but, not for breaks)

This is what is putting a wrench in things... If a code came up (even as I call a hidden code, if the CEL does not come on but it's a Lexus code in Tech stream), but, nothing comes up.

Well, there are plenty of LS460s with clicking brakes - usually the slide pins. Lexus only wants to do something (replace the actuator) if there's a code associated.

Well, I guess I will say that is a little of relief ,so odds are it's not the actuator, as the code is not up.

Still wondering what it is, Before this clicking started it was nice and smooth, after it, it's very touchy....something is going on but, not sure this is why I posted it.

Many people have complained of a click noise, I believe it could be brake hardware or even control arms. The brake actuator would definitely throw a code if it was junk. It probably has been doing this the entire time you've owned the car, but with the weather being nicer (sunroof open, windows down) you notice it more.

If you can feel a difference in braking performance, then I'd get it checked. Clicking slide pins wouldn't do this - could be the brake actuator, ABS computer, or other things you don't want to mess with.

I can do this while the car is in park, not moving. So, not sure it can be control arms (based on the symptoms )

Ok. If I remember others have had this, do a search, I think it could be the actuator, but I also want to say it's "normal" until/unless the actuator fails.

It happened to me after I tried using the brake "Hold" feature. It eventually went away on it's own.... weird huh...
