Default Adding subs to the ML system

2007 LS 460 with the ML. Sounds good, but I want some bass and I some brand new audio equipment laying around. Two JL Audio 12w6 with box and a JL audio 1200/1 amp. I will have an experienced installer put them in two weeks. Anything I should be aware of?

Maybe it will help me forget about the wind noise lol

I added one 12" sub and it sounds amazing. Highly recommended

ML sound system is amazing and the clarity is incredible. Your new audio will have more bass but not clarity and hopefully it will be compatible.

As long as you have a variable low pass filter, a level control and a phase control on the amp, you should be fine matching it to your existing system. You can always manually reverse phase to confirm (by reversing the + and - wires to the sub) but that's a pain.

I agree with dlbuckls10. More bass is a personal thing I guess. Upsetting the balance in that system would be my concern. I already have enough bass in mine to cause my rear view mirror to be unusable because of the shaking. Are you really trying for BETTER sound? Or just MORE sound/bragging rights?

More sound. I like the sensation of having subs hit when the music is turned up

I have a JL HD 1200/1 amp. It should have a level control and low pass filter but I am not sure about the phase control. Why is that important if it's wired properly? Also, the installer will have to tap the wires going into the ML amp for the current subs as input signal for my JL amp? I assume they have the wiring diagrams?

I hope they have the correct wiring diagrams. You need to check, wherever you take off for the JL amp, that you're getting a full range signal. Lexus may roll off the bass signal to prevent damage from very low frequency signals overdriving the ML sub. Also, you really want the low pass frequency of the JL sub below the frequency of the ML sub and you don't wany any overlap bass frequencies (in the ML sub and JL sub to be out of phase as they will cancel each other out and leave a dip at the crossover area. The JL amp has a phase control ("output polarity") so you should be good to go. Nice amp!

A good installer should take all of this into account but you should ask them just to be sure.
