Hello, welcome to CL forum....First of all which year Ls 460 do you own? Correct me if I am wrong but the only model that comes with led headlights from the year 2007-2012 are the Ls600. The headlight that comes on the Ls600 have 3 projectors, which are led and the Ls460 headlights have only 2 projectors which is hid. I hope this will answer your question.

Hello ASAS, welcome to CL! Looks like you are looking and haven't bought an LS yet. Good luck with the search. You will find much helpful information and advice on this forum.

I think you are correct about the pre-2013 headlight. In 2013+, only the three projector headlight has LEDs. You can see the cooling fins below the outermost projector. Oddly, the innermost projector doesn't really light up. It appears to have only the infrared light for cars equipped with advanced pre-collision system.

Default Thanks

Thank you so much guys. Yes I am still looking for an LS 460 and I was wondering how to differentiate between these two headlights. Your answers are helpful. Thanks again. Happy to join you in this forum.

ASAS, search the threads for a lot of useful car-buying advice on pricing (KBB, NADA, Edmunds), websites (carsdotcom, Autotrader, cargurus, eBay), warranties (CPO, Platinum VSA, 3rd party), pre-purchase inspections, and just information about different model years and packages. You can also post info about the cars you are considering for feedback. While I did some of this before I bought my car last year, I didn't take full advantage of the knowledge and goodwill of members here. I probably could have saved $3-4K on my purchase price. Good luck!

My understanding guys now is that there are two types of headlights (one with two projectors that is HID light and the other with three projectors that is LED light). Am I correct?

Thanks Comotiger,
I did some search and got a lot of information from this forum. I agree with you that it is a great a great place to start with when deciding to buy a Lexus.

Yes, that's correct. I could be wrong, but the LED bulb is used only for the outermost projectors, and maybe not for the inner high beam, whether in the 2013+ LS460 or in the 2007-2017 LS600hL.

2009 LS460 (HID bulbs)

2008 LS600hL (LED bulbs)

2013 LS460 (HID bulbs)

2013 LS460 (LED bulbs)

Very good to know that. Thanks again comotiger.

So I would assume the extra $1450 or so for the LED lights is only for another projector in the headlights? I also read that the inner projectors turn towards the directions the car goes or so! Is that correct?

Correct. My 08 does this and is called "AFS"

I think AFS was an option on the 2007-2012 but iss standard on the 2013+. The optional LEDs on the 2013+ include "intelligent hi-beam" which dim's the high beam when it sees car lights approaching.

AFS (Adaptive Front lighting System) has been a standard safety feature on the LS460 since its inception:

http://pressroom.lexus.com/article_d...rticle_id=2513

The AFS "improves visibility at intersections and on curves by automatically adjusting the direction of light axis of the headlights according to vehicle speed and the degree of the tire angle that are controlled by steering input. " (From my owner's manual.)
