Default Weird remote start issue

Ok either I never knew it or my car was possessed tonight.

After leaving the gym, I go to get in the car and the doors won't unlock. I only have my wallet key. So I physically take it out and put it against the glass, near the hood, nothing. Wouldn't unlock or lock the door. Even tried passengers doors.

As I'm trying the passengers side front door I see the speedo light up and the car starts. Wtf?

I don't know if hitting the lock 3 times on the car door did it, I can't remember if I even did that. Once the car started I could open the doors and everything was normal.

Did I just not know about it or should I get an old priest and a young priest?

Brand new. My wallet key battery was replaced a month ago, and it seems to last about a year. My other remote was 20 min away in my house. I'm going to try to replicate it today.

Is your car equipped with a remote start feature?

Let me get this straight, you don't have remote start, yet your car was somehow able to... start itself?

I have remote start. But I was able to start the car from outside using only the door handles. Didn't know that possible but it is. I just confirmed it. I had never tried it because why the hell would I go outside to press the door lock 3 times to start the car in the cold haha

I have a viper smart start on my car, if you press lock 3 times on the key fob it starts, if you press it 3 times on the door lock button it starts just like you said.

If you remote start the car and the 20 minutes runs out, when you walk up to open the door it won't unlock like it normally does... You either have to hit the unlock button on the fob once then the door is obviously unlock, or if its not accessible (in your bag or whatever) you can press the lock button on the door once, wait 3/4 seconds then grab the handle and it should unlock.

Also if its stuck in that mode and you remote start it again, the door lock will unlock when you grab the handle if it is running.

Just a glitch I have noticed, and those are my workarounds.

Thanks. Yes I was able to get into it once it started up. I had no idea it worked by just touching the door lock on the handle. Surprised the hell out of me. Thought the car was going to leave me in the parking lot and drive home by itself. hahha

You mentioned it driving off, and well, this memory of my childhood came to mind...

Excellent discovery! I need to try this on the LX - we have remote starter, and I just use the card as well.

So what is supposed to be the sequence to follow with the button on the handle again (please)? Last night I tried (on the LX) what I thought was it and had no luck.

Just try pressing the small black lock button three times quickly. I can hear the beeps on my car. I usually end up doing it 4 times just to be sure.
