Default Replace Spark Plugs at 60K?

OK, so I did as you guys suggested and found the service requirements online. Says to replace spark plugs on the LS at 60K. Is this right? I never heard of anyone here talking about it.

What should I expect to pay a good independent shop to do this?

Owners manual for the 2007 US LS460 says every 100,000 miles. For 2008 on, it says every 60,000 miles. Don't know why, nothing changed.

Dealership will charge $400-$450 to change the plugs, independent maybe $300-$350. It's just a tedious job getting everything out of the way to get at them.

Default Change plugs at 60,000 miles

It is required at 60,000 miles to meet Federal emission control requirements, according to the manual for my 2012 LS.

So they will last 100K but you only replace at 60K if worried about Fed requirements?

I also heard something about this before

They will last over 100K and not look horrible, I know this b/c I had them replaced on my old LS460 (around 115K) based on the old requirements. Lexus did change the it to 60K for 07-09 like one of the members posted, I would not stress over it.

If your performance has dipped along with fuel economy then I would change em but your good for that 100k.

I did mine at 60k and posted a DIY with lots of pics. It's not a difficult job, but you do have to remove some engine room covers and the battery.

Yes there was a change. The LS engine went from multiport fuel injection to direct injection. There are advantages of direct injection, but one casualty is a shorter spark plug life (at least maybe due to emission standards).

You sure about that? My understanding is that the 2007-2009 engines are identical and use the same combination of direct and port injection (?)

Well right now I can't find a reference, but I am pretty sure the change to direct was the reason the spark plug change interval was reduced to 60K miles. Which does make logical sense because if they didn't switch to strictly direct, why would they not have left the interval unchanged.

Politics and regulatory compliance?

I just looked at my window sticker and under "Performance Features" it lists multiport fuel injection. If anyone here has their 2008 or 2009 sticker and can look to see what their spec is maybe we can sort this out.

Car & Driver 2007:

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...s460-road-test

"Notable technology includes Lexus's dual fuel injection - a port injector and a direct injector per cylinder."

Not aware of any changes for the 2008+ model years on the 1UR-FSE engine.
