GREAT write-up by the way!
Yes, it's definitely worth it.

I have the 2013 model and Bestbuy installer said that the FLCAN is not available. Instead idata has the ADS-AL-CA module for it. They want $250 for it installed. I looked and it only cost $50 online for the unit. If somehow I can get it flashed, I'd do the install myself.

Shibumi1: wonder if you can get me a module and have it flashed? I'll pay for it of course. Or if you know anyone would flash it, it would be greatly appreciated.

Fyi there's still no cost effective way to do takeover... short of bypassing all of the door triggers....

Looking forward to installing it...I get it on Tuesday.
Thank you for the link!
I just ordered it from this seller. I'm thinking of getting a Smart Start DSM 250 or DSM 350.

Hi all, I am not sure I understand the compatibility listings here

What I want to find out is if this is applicable (as in will funtion) with a 2008 LS600hL.

On the compatibility list I see "RSR" from 2009 onwards, and only "standard application" for 2008.
This according to the legends.
So what is standard application.

Can anyone confirm this would work with 2008?

Thank you.

What it means is that you will need an additional device for remote start like Viper, Python, etc since your year doesn't come with remote start ready feature.

Hi,

Thank you.

Since then I found another (more official looking) site for the system. Here is seems it does remote start. I don't see a mention of the Viper or Python that you mentioned. Where can I confirm about this and know what exact devices that I would need to get.

EDIT: Also what makes me more confused with regards to what you wrote is that is I do select a firmware (from the dropdown menu) at the original link I aksed about . To be precise the TL3 3.14 Firmware. Then it shows 2008 LS600h as RSR. So are you definite about what you wrote? That is does need and extra unite apart from the DBALL2 kit?

Question. Who has installed the smart start system to a Dball2? Is it any more involved or does it simply plug and play into the dball2?

My searching has not really answered this yet?

Well installed it today. Went smooth. Remote start works on key fob. Just have to activate the smart start.

I'd contact a Viper dealer in your area.... DO NOT PLUG IN THE SMART START if the dball2 has power!!!! it will fry the dball2... unplug power (blue plug) then make sure to ground the gray wire from the smart start module.. then u can plug it into the dball2... then power the dball2 back up.. making sure the car is in clear view of the sky.. then all a dealer would need is the air i.d. of the unit to run a test an activate the unit

I have remote start on my 2014. It was installed by the dealer on the new car for the first owner. I am surprised a Lexus dealer cannot install one.

Here's what I've found. Many average car audio shops shy away from anything like BMW, MB or Lexus. They're afraid of messing up a computer, module, etc. On my wifes X5, I had to find a high end specialty shop in Vancouver to install her remote start. Nobody else would touch it. For her CT200, I had less of an issue, and did find a local shop to do hers.

If all else fails, a dealer will do it. Albeit, at double the price probably..

I went to the dealer and they couldn't get it done on both my LS460 and IS250. Both are F-Sport models. At first, they tried to install it on my IS and didn't work. Then, they said it's not compatible.
