Default 2010 NAV update

Anyone have luck updating he HDD NAV? Other than taking it to Lexus? They charge up to 120.00 to put the memory stick in and push update. It can't be difficult!

Best price has been 220.00.

It's not that simple. The memory stick only contains the key showing you purchased the update. The Techstream diagnostic laptop has to be connected to update the car's hard drive.

Believe it or not it takes an hour to do and a lot more to it than what you described. I had mine updated recently (Service credit) to get rid of the 'I Agree' lawyer screen, they use a device that copies & wipes the HDD then reinstall the new Nav version with your copied files back on to the HDD. I agree the labor charge they add on is ridiculous, but I really hate the I Agree screen and Lexus paid for majority of it. Now on the newer Lexus Nav generation it's very easy to update and pretty quick from what I was told.

That $220 price is about right. The last price I know for the actual update was $169, and then the labor charge. So $51 labor is not bad. Some dealers have charged much more than that.

I paid $300 at the dealer. BTW, the dealer said the optimum time to update is every 3 years, that there are typically not enough changes to warrant updating more frequently.

Update:
Spoke to Lexus CC and they are working with the dealer I purchased the car from to update it at their cost. Lexus CC said they should have done this as a CPO courtesy. NOT required under CPO warranty, but a nice courtesy.

I know the Lexus NAV is pretty weak and way outdated technology, but an LS600hL should be up to date, or so I think so and will make me feel better knowing it is updated.

My Garmin with lifetime maps is better than my RX350 and IS350. I would feel pretty silly driving a LS600hL with a portable NAV strapped to the windshield. What would a passenger think...all this technology and you have a Garmin? I would rather NOT take the beating from my buddies.

Spoken like a true auto enthusiast! I couldn't agree more.....but I'll ***** about it nonetheless! LOL

My analogy is, if my lcd clock on the dash goes out, I'm sure as hell not going to Walmart to buy a stick-on clock to put over top of it.

November this year will be the next big update. Techstream version available now is from 2011. I was quoted 169.00 for the update and 20.00 labor from our local independent shop. http://www.exclusivelyimportsautorepair.com/services

I thought the cutoff date for the current Sept 2013 (v13.1) update was Sept 2012, not 2011?

The update is 2013 version 13.1, my car currently has version 9.1, which is late 2009 update.
