Default Custom grille 101

seeing as there were a lack of IMHO classy custom grilles. i decided to make my own...

1st bought a junk 1 off fleabay to hack up an play w...

then after some trial an error.. pulled my grille cut out the "L" an fabbed up some new bars... epoxy them into position... now i have a ton of sanding...and painting ahead of me..

finished grille pics.. soon.. but here are some teasers...

lemme know what u think

I think you're off to a great start!!
Keep us updated!!

Next time put something solid behind it for the pics. Kinda hard to really appreciate it with all the background distractions. Have you considered a flat black paint?

thought about flat black.. but for now until i get the body kit in & on.. i'll dupe the factory appearance.. to see if anyone will notice.. when i get the kit i may color match it.. but i also may leave the silver on the edge to break it up.. jus depends on which way looks cleaner

Looks great! I like the new color. You make me want to do it as well. Can't wait to see pictures of it on your car.

Agreed, well done. Especially with the exorbitant prices the aftermarket people want for something that still isn't quite what I'd like. Yours is just right!

Might look into it myself. There is a product on the market called 'Friendly Plastic' which comes in sheets and can be heated in hot water and pretty much hand-molded to whatever shape you want. It might offer an alternative to buying a parts-grill. Most big craft stores carry it.

Lookin' good...really.

the parts grille was more for practice than anything else.. id much rather chop up a used grille than my new 1.... after a few days of perfecting the crossbars i decided it was time to do the real thing.. we used an aluminum jig to hold the pieces together while the resin cured also made sanding a lil easier before fusing it to the actual grille.. its tricky bcuz the grille curves in 3 diff directions....

Been wanting to do that to the grill on our 400 but just don't get around to it.

Not bad. I thought you were going to put the L back on. Still looks good.

no.. the whole idea was to remove the L... i think it looks alot cleaner w/o the emblem breaking up the lines of the front end
