When I drive more than a hour, I'm having trouble getting comfortable. My butt seems to just sink into the seat (I'm thinner than most people), and I have to move around a lot. Does anyone else have this problem? Have you had the courage to ask you service advisor about it?

 

You are being too picky! I am not that comfortable in any car more than an hour.

I think that the seats are super comfortable in general.

 

I don't have that problem, but the seats in my LS 430 were more comfortable...

Having read a lot of the early reviews on the LS - lots of them said with all of the adjustability built into the drivers seat that the "FIT-to-user" was great. I too think its a bit SOFT - and the lumbar is somewhat lacking. I think my expectations were set HIGH after reading some of the reviews. I much prefer the firmer seats in the new S.

 

I am a big guy. I don't find the seats to be comfortable at all. I would say the seat base is hard. With the seat base extended out for leg support there is very little padding and it is kind of a hole in the seat. I know there were several complaints about the 2007 and a TSB was issued.

 

Thanks, TERRAIN/bruceko. But perhaps I should rephrase my question as I'm not necessarily complaining. For anyone with the same experience, are they aware of any adjustability of the firmness of the drivers seat cushion?

 

Do you know what they did to the seat in the TSB?

 

Sorry, checking the previous thread it looks like no Tsb was issued but many fixes were done.
They added padding.
people were complaining they could feel tubing or a cable under the padding

Bruceko, that was usefull. I think you and I are describing the same thing -- that feeling that you're sinking down onto a hole (in contrast to sitting on something).

I've asked my service advisor to call (she got a good chuckle). I'll post any response.

 

The seat padding seems to be inconsistent on different cars. On my 460 SWB, I sensed no problem whatsoever. However, on my 600hL, I find the padding at the center-rear a bit thin. The seating position seems longer on the LWB, allowing for taller and/or larger drivers. The seat angles and heights seem different as well - the seat goes back further. I weigh 150 lbs, and I find the cushioning in the tail bone area too firm on long drives, so I can imagine some individuals might be even more uncomfortable than me. I compensate for this by raising the seat, which moves the cushion away from the wiring harness, motor, seat frame or whatever is pushing up against the seat cushion. Although I shouldn't have to do this, so if it persists (as I'm sure it will), or if it starts to get on my nerves, I will try to get it fixed.

 

My wife and I both think the padding on the bottom cushion of our 2005 LS430 is too thin. It definitely becomes uncomfortable after a long drive. I test drove a 2007 LS460L, and it seemed to be about the same. I had the same complaint about my 2001 LS430, and my dealer added more padding under warranty. That seemed to help some.

 

My experience is similar to bruceko. To me, the padding seems a bit thin. I have a fairly large frame and this is the first car I've ever owned that I have to remove my wallet from my back pocket. If I don't it's very uncomfortable to sit in. Without the wallet, the seat is comfortable. I've yet to take a long road trip in the LS, so I'm curious to see how my butt feels after an extended period of time.

 

I have yet to drive on a trip that is > 30 miles. Hope to get a 100 mile or so trip soon to test out the seats. Initial impression of the seats are just about right - not too firm and not too soft. I wish they had side wings that automatically adjusted when cornering like the S550 - but perhaps that is asking too much.

 

i've found that turning on the cold air if you have the ventilated seats will help make this feel better. the sweat you produce from your body after a long drive will feel relieved and you won't notice the hole in the seat.
