Okay, I don't like to be locked in my car. So I don't like the fact the doors lock every time I shift out of park.
The manual says I can cancel that by turning the ignition to "ON", then pressing the door lock button for 5 seconds. Problem is, it doesn't do anything when I try it.
Is there some secret step I'm overlooking, or what?
You should get a 1 time "lexus personalization setting" appointment with your dealer who can configure this, and 20+ other options for you. Your manual should have something about it or check here: http://www.lexus.com/pdf/service/LS_LPS.pdf
Although customization and personalization can be done by the dealer, many of the changes can be done by yourself. See Page 23 of the manual. These all work properly so if you are having trouble, follow the procedure exactly and try again.

Page 23 is just pictures of the controls in the rear. On Page 50 is the procedure I followed numerous times (and with numerous variations), and it didn't work.
The procedure simply is to press the Start button twice with your foot off the brake (to get to Ignition On), then shift to P and press the door lock button for 5 seconds or so, within 20 seconds. All that seems to do is lock the doors (duh).
That is supposed to toggle between locking the doors and *not* locking the doors when shifting out of P. But it ain't working for me.
I see it's also #5 on the LPS list, but the manual says I can do it myself. That's what THEY think!
The first time that happened to me was on a Mercedes, I didn't quite like it myself. However the intermediate setting, locking when a certain speed is reached, works for some.
