Boot switch does not work .
I have just installed a new boot switch into my 2002 LS430 , the boot switch has has not been used since I've had the car due to the melted cover syndrome !!
Now all of my smart key stuff works , however the remote boot button does not open the boot .
The light on the remote works when you press the button but the boot does not open .
Before anybody suggests it the valet thing it definitely is unlocked and yes I tested the new switch to make sure it works .
So is there anything I'm missing ??
I might add the self closing boot thing also works .
Does the boot switch have its own fuse ??
I think its pretty unlikely there is a broken wire in the boot or suchlike as not only is there no evidence of that and I've checked with the boot inner off as well as one can , plus the car has not been rear ended or anything like that .
Usually I can solve/fix these kind of things but I'm a stumped on this one .
I feel I'm just missing something obvious and simple ??
I might add that I cannot seem to unlock the doors or lock them with the remote but the red light goes when you push the button and the button on the door handle locks the car easily which suggests the problem is with the car not the remore especially as the boot switch doesn't work either . .
Please any thoughts ??
Also, you say first that ""all my smart key stuff works" but then later "I cannot . . . unlock the doors or lock them with the remote" which would seem to indicate your remote might actually be the problem with unlocking the boot.
If you press the button to unlock, can you then lift the boot?
Sorry if I am stating the obvious. :-)
If you have another master key, try with that as it may be that the key isn't correctly programmed.
In fact, from your comments that the remote buttons do not work for the doors either, I suspect that only the SmartKey aspect was programmed.
Does the boot release switch by the steering wheel open the boot?
Read my post , it's Not the valet lock !!
The smart part recognises the remote , the little flashing red light goes to green when the key is in range so the remote is programmed in .
When I push the lock button on the outside door handle the red light on the remote flashes .
As far as I'm Aware if the remote light flashes when you press the buttons then the remote is working as the light is set up like a failsafe, if the light flashes then the remote works .
The unlock button on the boot lid itself doesn't unlock the boot.....that's nothing to do with the remote .
I know the lock is powered up as the dash lever unlocks the boot .
I will investigate a bit more towards what the remote activates oyn the car .
Something is out somewhere and I'm pretty sure it's not the remote , however the easiest thing to do first is get hold of another remote and programme it in .
I only have the one remote but I will get another then I will know if it actually is the remote....or not !!

Either that or else the key is not programmed to the car 100% correctly.
Lets see what happens when you have another key programmed to the car.
When you touch the door buttons, the car queries the key via RFID or similar short range system.
When you push the button it uses the 315/433Mhz remote frequency system to transmit to the car.
Perhaps the boot release button also uses the 315/433Mhz system?
Are you certain that yours is the SmartKey? I ask as the Owners Manuals only show the SmartKey from 2004-2006.

Your information is incorrect .
You can see from this link early and face lift key difference , the pre face lift has a longer **** on the fob .
