Default navigation to non navigation set up

search just brought up problems related to navigation.

i never use the navigation in the car. has anyone ever switch to a regular set up? how hard is it to do something like that? is it even possible with out replacing major components/spending a lot of money?

my radio volume is starting to give me problems (like when i try to turn up the volume it goes down, so i have to keep spinning the ****). searching for a fix and i don't seem to find anything, so i assume i will have to replace it. so if that has to happen, i thought about checking the non-navigation route.

anyone have any info?

Everything has to be replaced. Head unit, all speakers, amp, nav unit, and possibly all the wiring. You're better off selling the car and getting a non-nav/ML example.

There is a Lexus specific junkyard here in Phoenix called I-17 Auto Parts. They usually have really good prices.

Why not just remove or disconnect the nav unit in the trunk.

That got rid of the dvd messages in mine and I can still use the other menus as needed.

well, mine isn't a problem with the nav unit. my main issue is the radio volume isn't working correctly. i found regular radios a lot cheaper (and more options) while looking around. but with that much work, i'll just have to pay more for another radio and just keep everything the way it is.

I do not use nav because I have JDM car with japan maps but I wonder if I could use nav wirings to something else e.g. to add external video input?

has anyone ever tackled this? after getting 2 different radios (each of them still have issues), radio still has issues. and the only ones i can find that are more of a guarantee (but still not 100%) to work are up in the $500 range. i would rather put that money into a replacement system with a little work. do you really have to replace all the speakers and everything? i'm not afraid of some re-wiring/replacing harnesses just to replace everything would really suck, lol.

What is your sound source? Commercial radio? Cellphone?

Maybe a Bluetooth solution?

i ended up installing a GROM unit for my music. but it's the unit's volume that really got me thinking about everything. i have to replace the tuner itself in order to fix the radio volume problem. i bought this current unit from an ebay seller (with a warranty that he included). volume works as it should (which was my problem with my original unit). but the CD changer doesn't work when i tried to put my CD's back in. which i didn't think was a problem since i really don't listen to them. but i need to use the CD function in order to get my GROM unit to play it's music. the seller is sending me another unit (hopefully it works). but who knows how long that will last (since these units aren't new).

there was another seller that had refurbished units. but that is the one with the price around $500 after shipping. then if i have a problem with the NAV screen. that's more to replace. i would rather just have the regular HVAC system and be able to put an aftermarket system in like others have done with their non NAV vehicles.
