Default Center console lights sometimes go out

I have a 2004 LS430. The center console lights sometimes go out. All the functions seem to work, but the buttons are hard to see at night when the lights go out. The lights include the map, radio and climate buttons. There must be a flaky wire. Does anyone have the electrical wiring diagram that would include the offending wire? Thank you.

John

I had the same problem with my 04 and sometimes smacking (lightly) would cause the light to come and then eventually, this didn't work anymore. Just replace the light in the counsel. We are talking about the light indicating which gear your in, right?
It was super easy to replace and can be in 5 mins or less. I LED'd mine, more bright and cool. Its a #74

The wiring responsible for illumination are powered through terminals 1 and 2 of a connector called "M4".

Thank you. The diagrams look great. I will try to find the connector and check it.

Is this the same as what you would find on a 2005 model?

It looks like the wires are behind the screen. How do I remove the screen? I can remove all the stuff below the screen down to the gear shift.

I think my issue has something to do with the day/night sensor for the screen. Where would that be in the car?

Where is the light sensor that detects day/night for the Nav screen? I think mine is flaky.

When the nav screen thinks it is daytime, do all your center console buttons go dark?

We have the same issue. I am surprised nobody seems to know where the light sensors are located. I would like to figure out this issue.

This is my nighttime center dash. No buttons are lit. I still think it is the day/night sensor.
