Please explain what might need replacing. If it is the light sensor on the front dashboard, I just figured out how to change it. I can get to it by removing the instrument cluster.

I bought the day/night sensor on ebay. Now I have to figure out how to change it. I removed the driver’s instrument cluster thinking I could get to the sensor, but the sensor is in the middle of the dashboard by the front defrost vents. My only other guess is to remove the nav screen. Does anyone know how to do this? I understand there are two screws under each of the a/c up down buttons. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

The day/night sensor solved my problem. I had to go behind the nav screen, but there was lots of stuff in the way. I had to put in a snake to get the wire up through the hole in the dashboard.

Nice! I bought an LS430 last week and now I'm having the same problem. Thanks for sharing the part number!

But I'm gonna try something first, since it's hard to replace this sensor.
I purchased the Techstream Toyota software to program my keys and be able to get the check engine, abs, vsc lights code's. It should be here by Tuesday. And I believe there is an option to disable the DRL. That might solve the problem. Maybe.

I think Daytime Running Lights (DRL) are something else.

The day/night sensor on my 2004 LS430 is part number 89121-50020. I found it very cheaply on ebay. It seems to work fine. I paid around $10, instead of $130 from Lexus. I hope that this part lasts. The sensor is in the middle on the front dashboard by the defrost vents.

hi,
to remove sensor, the sensor push UP or pull down? what i'm trying to say if you push sensor up, perhaps people can just use something sharp and break the sensor on top then just plug a new sensor? no need to pull navi screen and other stuff get to sensor behind screen? just trying to think outside of the box.

Usually, sensors like that are pushed down to mount. So to remove it you push it up. Sounds like an easier way to pull it up even if it breaks cuz you won't be needing it anyway

Good news!! It worked!! Now the center console lights are lit only when i turn the parking lights or the headlights on!!

All i did is disable the DRL using the techstream software.

I wanted to upload a video but it says that the video is not supported. But here's a screenshot of the software.

I tried to pop the day/night sensor out carefully to do what you suggested. The sensor broke off from the base. I still had to remove the nav screen to attach the new sensor.

I’m glad disabling DRL worked.
