I need to lift the engine in order to replace the engine mounts. The hood needs to be removed but there is a cable running from the hood on the driver side and into the firewall. Where does this cable get disconnected?

Each motor mount is attached to the engine block with 4 bolts and to the chassis with 1 bolt, so this portion of the motor-mount-replacement effort is very easy. The problem is that there is not enough space between the engine block and the chassis to get the old motor mount out.

You will have to lift the engine by a few inches to create a bigger gap between the engine block and the chassis, combine that with varying the orientation of the old motor mount to get it to fit thru the gap for removal, and then to do the same to get the new one in.

Common consensus suggests that jacking from below on the oil pan will compress/damage the pan gasket and causes oil leak. Lifting with an engine lift is the preferred method, but you will only need to lift the engine by a couple of inches - not enough to require the removal of the hood. Also a very important point to remember is to be sure to detach the power steering fluid reservoir from its mounting bracket before you start the lift.

 

Make sure to get the OEM mount. I installed the autozone brand and it went bad in 2 weeks. I jacked up the engine using the oil pan.
