How to free Sticky Switches
I have hung a bottle of liquid air fresher at the centre vents right above the front, rear window defogger and air-conditioning auto switches. Unfortunately, the bottle leaked and the fluid was erosive and melted the plastic skin on both the front and back of these switches making all three switches sticky and can not function. I have tried to free them with all sorts of solvents but it only got worse and the plastic skin melted even more. I have visited a few car detailing companies but they can do nothing but recommend to replace the entire panel. I just wonder if any expert here have the same experience and can offer a better solution. Thanks.
Just noticed you were in Hong Kong. You may have a different version. In addition, it appears you have Mark Levinson with no Nav. I am not sure if that makes a difference. I might try to buy the US version of the climate control unit from ebay and try to make it work. You may also be able to take it apart using the new "used" parts to repair your original unit. In addition, you might want to check the cost of a new part at the dealer.
I had a similar situation with a Lexus GX that I purchased, where someone had spilled a coffee on top of the dash buttons and let it sit un the sun and dry... #$!#%$!%^$%!!!!! (and to think they let these people vote!)
But I digress. In my case, I took the panel out and carefully disassembled each button to clean them up one by one with nothing more than a mix of water and isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol). This took all the grease away and let the buttons work freely again. I suggest you try it if you are good at DIY work.
