I' haven't driven the vehicle at night yet but once I do I'll see if the issue has been resolved. All work was under warranty, however the WO states this job (labor and parts) came out to $43.68 that's good news if you have no warranty.
Where is the sensor for the headlights to automatically turn off. They do not shut off in any position automatically
For the 01-03 it's the little black bubble/dot thing on the middle-top of the dashboard, next to the front windshield vents.
There are also ways to change at what light level's the sensor must be at the activate and de-activate the headlights/dash-illumination. Google "customize function diagnostic program card" for more info. You need to go to a Lexus/Toyota dealer (or similar) to change these settings.
Edit: I dont have an 04-06 so i cant say for certain if its the same location. I wouldn't be surprised if it is though.
My 04 UL has the "little black bubble/dot thing" at the same place. Regarding auto turn off, the car won't turn off the lights if there is a door or trunk lid open. It assumes you are not through with the car and doesn't want to shut down and leave you in the dark for instance. It will shut down after a programed wait after the last door is shut.
Thanks OKNowWhat The door switch sounds logical will check it out
No problem! Hey when you have the problem figured out I'd appreciate if you could write up a bit on what you ended up doing. (just in case my ends up doing the same thing at some point)
Bad switch for sure. When I open the drivers door interior light does not come on. Other 3 doors do come on.Will swap out the rear door switch to the front tomorrow
UPDATE: So when I took the rubber piece of there was no 10mm bolt holding it tight took the bolt out of the rear door put it in the front and PRESTO the front interior light came on. Opened rear door and no rear light. So with out that 10mm bolt in it is not grounded. Headlights go off automatically. aLL THIS TIME TRYING TO FIGURE OUT THIS LIGHT PROBLEM ALL IT WAS WAS A BOLT. All is good.
