Take it to an automotive interior specialist. Not being sarcastic. I don't see how you can do anything about that. My car's wheel is very similar.

I'vd said it before and I'll say it again. Since the leather is in good shape you can easily restore the color. Take the shift **** off (the leather is the same as the steering wheel) and take it to Home Depot or other paint store and have them make an 8 oz sample of their premium latex paint. Using a small brush, just repaint the area. With a good paint match, you won't be able to tell the difference and it will have a rather long life.

Detail shops will also do the work. Essentially, they paint it.

I had the same problem and fixed it with a product by Fiebling's called Neutral Bag-Kote. You can find it on Amazon.com

That looks great. May I ask the best way to apply it? Does it need to be diluted? Use a sponge? Should I use black dye (like shoe polish) before I use it ?

thanks much!

I didn't use any dye for my repair. I used it straight out of the bottle and applied a couple of thin coats (a few hours apart) with a small 1/4" brush. It does not wear as well as the original coating, but mine lasts about a year before I need to re-coat.

I do interior repair for a living, I would recommend having it done professionally so you don't have to worry about reapplication every year or more. The hardest part is finding someone who knows what they are doing. For a lasting repair you need to sand, seal, retexture, and dye the area.
