Default Pads or shims = squeal in reverse?

2005 ls430

Every time car reverses (cold or hot doesn't matter ) makes squeak loudly as reversed

Does not make any sound going forward at all

Records show brakes were changed 7k miles ago.

Question
1) is culprit rear brake pads?

2) is it possible that shop didn't install shims?

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Driving me nuts and embarrassing how loud the sound is

It would definetly be the rear pads id check first.

Id pull the pads out and re-grease everything and double check the shims.

Do you know if they used a good oem pad or equivalent or some cheap parts store stuff?

2012-2015 services at independent (last brake changed)

Lexus calls its shims "Anti-squeal Shims", so I would definitely start my troubleshooting there. There's no need to un-bolt the calipers. Just simply remove the pin and slide the brake pads out. Carefully note each pad's location. Remove the shims and apply brake grease as indicated on the repair manual.

Personally I run the Akebono Pro-Act Pads which are an oem manufacturer and high quality.

I used anti squeal shims from Sewell they have a rubber backing and it took care of my issue on the IS350. You know it's bad when you roll up to a dui check point and the officer cringed in horror when I started to brake. He just said you need to take care of that and waived me on lol.

Be sure to include anti-squeal shims and grease them properly (see Post #4). Proper "Bedding-in" of the new rotors is also very important.

i usually put some copper grease on the sides of the pads just for some precaution. I replaced mine with oem pads and they didnt make any sound at all after i bed them in.
