This is really weird - sunroof opening by itself
The other day I was driving the LS with the a/c on, car all closed up, when the sunroof started opening by itself. I had both hands on the wheel at the time. That happened twice on a 30 minute trip.
Today I drove it again, and it was nice this morning so I had it open, but a couple times I could hear it "clicking" like if you held the switch to "open" while it was already all the way open.
I changed it to closed but tilted up, in that position I don't think it can try to open itself.
FWIW when it happened the other day it was very humid, but today is very low humidity so not thinking that has anything to do with it.
Any experience with this??

Good info - thanks. I am assuming it cannot open itself when turned off/key out, so that's good. I've heard of euro cars opening roof/windows at random when parked. THAT would suck, and with my luck it would be during a downpour.

I had this happen on my '01 last fall / early winter on a day when it was very humid, rainy, misty weather conditions. It didn't happen again after I changed the battery (and subsequently alternator), and it hasn't happened since. Did I say it's probably the battery?

It could be a battery issue. Cars do weird stuff when the battery starts failing. My 03 ES would constantly turn the wipers on by itself. Once the battery was replaced it never happened again.

+1 for the battery. Had a dying battery and had this happen several times - once in a snowstorm right after I bought the car. Car was full of family too. A temporary solution is to close the moonroof and pull the fuse. That'll shut that sucker up!

Exsercisem that is my advice.
You need to sacrifice a MB S class 2 brake callipers from a BMW 5 series & a oregnaloreginal working wiper moter from a Jag E type (good luck there).
Sorry could not resist.
From wat I read it's either the battery, alternator or the switch. For the battery & alternator a old test will show you the health of both.

As mentioned. Could be the sunroof button just stuck from the inside and malfunctioning. Or just an old battery dying in it's last moments.
Stop at any battery shop and they will test it for you, free of charge, start there. If battery looks good, then take a look at the switch, it's very easy to take it apart. GL.

Doubt it's the battery as this happened while driving, not idling, and the battery is only months old, genuine Lexus unit from the dealer. Switch seems likely - wondering if this is a side effect from sitting up to 2 weeks at a time....
