Default 2003 LS430 - Transmission Filter???

Hello,

Does this car have a transmission filter? I've changed the fluid on other cars and they usually do, though on this one I can't find a part number.

Thanks

Is this strainer considered a maintenance item? I.e. normally in the other cars I've worked on the transmission filter is replaced with the fluid like an oil change.

For 2003 LS430, Factory Maintenance Schedule mentions "Inspect transmission fluid" at 150,000 miles. No mention of replacing strainer.

See https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/lex...ce-schedule.do

Select "2003", then "LS430", then "Show me the details", and then "Guide" for all factory recommended maintenance services.

I've replaced lots of transmission filters, each time I've wondered why I did it. Every one I've looked at had a bid of clutch dust in them but still had plenty of life left.

This forum suggest a fluid change procedure without pulling the pan. The procedure replaces eight quarts of fluid instead of just three and and is much easier. Go to the "how too" section. I've done it and it works.

Thanks. Wow, that's a long interval. I only have 70k miles on it so I've got a ways to go. Thanks for the info!

Perfect. I think I've seen the link. You patch into one of the AT fluid tubes and let it suck up new transmission fluid and spit out the old stuff. Will work with that procedure, seems to be relatively simple.

Thanks for all of your help!
