That one should work fine. Keep in mind that the transmission filter is really a metal screen and they are usually good for at least 100k miles.

Can the OEM transmission oil screen (filter) be cleaned and reused?

Big holes? It should be just a oil strainer and not like a normal oil filter.

I wnat to change all my trans oil and filter next year but they filter is very expensive so i was also wondering if its possible to rinse the strainer. Couldt find much info or pictures on this.

Had my transmission fluid changed at Lexus for some months ago and the mechanic also cleaned the transmission filter. At first I also was going to replace the filter but it was expensive so the service technician recommended to just clean the filter instead.

So yes, it should be possible to just clean the filter. How you actually clean the filter I can't say (one of the reason why I let Lexus do it). But I guess you can use brake cleaning fluid or similar to get it clean, something that don't leave residues. Anyway, here is a good tutorial about changing the transmission fluid and filter, maybe that can hep a little:

its a metal screen/mesh that with time can get big holes punched through it from bits of transmission (if abused). should be replaced at this point. most of the time they're just gunked/gummed up and can be cleaned and reused.

its been a while but i recall tearing the actual filter assy. apart and cleaning the screen on my friend's supra, uses the same trans as the first gen LS. might be off.

replacing it is probably not a bad idea if its totally sealed oon the 1LS.

The filter is just not a cheap investment. I got rather surpriced when i ask for the price. so thats why i waited and said to myself hmmm maybe i should just clean it. The oil looks pretty clean, but next year i will flush and change all the trans oil and clean the filter.

its just bad luck if you see the filter is very dirty and then have to go buy the filter and wait for a week to get it changed.

Just to finish the issue...I wound up buying a filter and gasket kit from Advance Auto for $15..The old OEM filter looked pretty good and i have it soaking in gasoline right now for future use...Fluid was still red but on the boderline of brown...pan had a light coating of sludge as did the 4 magnets but no shavings could be noticed...added approx 2 qts of T-4 and i guess i'll run the car for a while drop the pan and put in another 2 qts and repeat 1 more time and all should be good

Good to hear bradster. Its funny, when i asked for a gasket at Lexus, he said that they dont make that. I should use whats it called in english, "gasket in a tube". In Denmark we call it "floating gasket".

But nice you didnt have any shavings on the magnets etc. Sounds like a good idea to put the filter in a gasoline bath. I'll might do that too. Will you then put the oem filter back on?

I should have been more clear...Since the gasket alone at an auto parts store (non OEM) was over $8 i decided to purchase the "kit" (non OEM) which included a filter with the gasket for $15 which i then installed...The old OEM filter cleaned up nice and i'll give it a blast with compressed air and put it to use sometime in the future.
