Can someone suggest a source for a tilt motor on my 2002 LS430? The wheel moves in and out but not up and down. Local toyota dealer quoted me $450 for the part.
If you do a search for ls430 tilt motor there are a few posts with a how to and part numbers. I'm having the same issue with the tilt motor dying. Think the motor is around 300.
How do you disable the tilt /telescopic steering? Can you easily enable it when you want to turn it back on (go to sell car, etc.)?
The dealer can do it. I had it done by a indy shop with a special scan tool. It took literally 2 minutes. I also had them programed all doors unlock when I put in park. It is called Cbest settings. Do a search on this forum for the pdf list of all the Cbest options.
I took my car into the Toyota dealer to check the motor. Didn't want to buy a motor if it just happened to be a switch. It was the motor. Diagnosis was free. I found the part at www.lexussouthatlanta.com for $304.12. The Toyota dealer quoted me $450 for the part so I saved about $150 by getting the part myself. Kinda surprised they let me do that. Labor will be about $150 which according to the service tech is about half what the book calls for. So, it looks like my total will be around $450. Not sure its worth it but I hate stuff that doesn't work.
This is a little more harsh but you can set the wheel and easily disconnect the power to the motor as well. Did this on my old LS400 when they were about to die. I might disable the auto feature or at least grease the mechanism really good.

Thanks for all the replies.
In the future (or if you haven't ordered already!) I'd also suggest looking at Sewell with our Club Lexus discount.
