Default 90k service help?

Hi, My father own a 05 lexus ls 430 that in need of the 90k service done, like the timing belt and water pump. What is the best way to do this without the stealership trying to milk every penny out of my father? Also is there anything need to be done at 90k beside timming belt and water pump, like spark lugs, tensioners and cam shaft seals? Thank alot

It varies from dealership to dealership on what they do at 90K. The best idea would be to find a highly rated mechanic that works on these cars and then purchase the parts yourself. Yelp or Angies List are good sites to use for finding good shops or look in the regional section of this site and see what others may recommend in your area. Make sure the shop is OK with this. Some will not allow it as they don't want to loose the markup on parts. I avoid greedy places like that.

The OEM kit is from Aisin. Fluids should be replaced as well. Power steering, brake, coolant, differential, and especially the drain and refill of the transmission. Make sure they know what they are doing with the transmission because it is a complicated procedure on the "sealed" world standard transmission. I'm pretty sure you have it. You can tell by popping the hood and seeing in there is a dipstick or not. If no dipstick then it is a "sealed" transmission. It's not really sealed its just what they call it. Might be worth having the dealer do the trans. It was only $99.00 at my local dealer.

Tune up in these cars are not until 120K but you can do it at 90 if you want.

Edit: Here is a better kit with really everything.

wow those kit is OEM? the price is just unreal. My local dealer quoted my dad almost 750 just for the parts. I will get the kit and bring it to my family mechanic shop. For the transmission, i think i will bite the bullet and let the dealer to it since it sound complicated and kinda scary.

Yeah, that is the OEM kit. Most dealers are a total rip off. You can actually negotiate with them and you will be surprised how often they will drop the price. Depends on the dealer of course.

Lexus of South Atlanta is very aggressive on their pricing. Best I can find when you need to find a part from a dealer.

yeah but i doubt they will negotiate the labor much. Their labor charge is outrages. If for a independent shop, what is the average price for a 430 90k service?

I would estimate it around $600 in labor. I think it's about a 14 hour job. It's a lot of work. Again, make sure the shop knows what they are doing.

The shop have been my family go to shop for a while now. He done every service for my sister and my mom RX and GS thus far. As for the fluids change, the price difference won't be much if you were to order from a toyota dealer right? So i dont have to buy those online. That's how our mechanic does it, he just call the local toyota dealer for whatever part he need when working on our family cars.

Get a quote from a local Toyota dealer. Toyota dealer that I use for the wife's 05 LS quoted about $1,250 for timing belt, water pump, tensioner, idler, gaskets, serpentine belt, etc.

My Toyota dealer and Lexus dealer both felt the idlers and tensioners rarely need replacing. I did belt pump/drove it to 197k and they where right as there was never any issues and or noise. 650 bucks with a 10 percent off coupon like 3 years ago at Yota dealer..

The water pump should be replaced with the timing belt. Does not make sense to not do this. Preventive maintenance.

the water pump can go 200k with no problems,
if the inspeciton shows the pump is spinning properly with no noise theres no issue,
if coolant flushes have been done again no issue generally
preventative maintanenece is great i didnt have 1000 4 months ago so i will do my belt and water pump at 190k

Yeah, but for a couple hundred bucks less is it really worth it? As you said it CAN go 200k without a problem but it also may fail at 120k. Then you have to do all that work again. If money is tight then you have to do what you have to do but I think the general consensus is go ahead and replace it every 90k.

The full procedure from a good independent shop should be no more then around $600 in labor. If you pay dealer labor rates it will be almost twice as expensive. When I priced out the full service on my old 99 LS400 the labor was about $540 from a well know Japanese shop.
