This is going to be interesting, I don't know what your problem is, but let us know how this turns out.

Does anybody know how the vvt works on these? i think its different than on hondas, but doesn't this problem sound like something to do this this type of system

wait, is this a CPO car? do you have an extended service plan? does your state have a lemon law? in my state the lemon law is only for 48 hours so act quickly

Obvious - but make sure that the drive shifter is in D and not in another gear - look at the dash and make sure.

Did it do it when you test drove it? Make sure the shifter is all the way to the passenger/right side.

Default 05 LS430 REV problem

You might want to try cleaning the MAF with CRC or similar MAF cleaner. I changed plugs, TPS, and cleaned throttle body before doing so without success in fixing the REV problem that you describe. Cleaned the MAF and noticed an immediate improvement, but still had a slight stumble in acceleration. Drove it this way for about a year (wife actually drove it because I was deployed) and just replaced MAF today. There is absolutely no hesitation now. Thinking about going to the dragstrip. J/K. I also removed my K&N as it appeared that the oil from the filter may have been affecting the MAF.

Replaced the MAF with a Beck Arnley 158-0777 from Amazon that cost $82.84 (w/ $3.99 for next day shipping). So far so good. Considered purchasing a Denso 197-6030 ($82.94 Amazon) and the OEM 2220422010 ($129.35 Sewell). We'll see how it works out.
