Default Mystery warning chime

About once per day my 06 LS430 produces a warning chime with nothing on the dash to indicate what the problem is. The chime begins with a tone, then continues with a lower pitch bong about once every two seconds for about 30 seconds total. Then it quits for a while, and resumes with the same pattern of chimes after a day or so.

The passenger seatbelt warning light works normally and isn't related to the mystery chime since I hear it whether or not a passenger is in the car. The chime continues even after turning off the climate control, AFS, audio system, and park assist system.

The washer fluid was low, so I filled it but the chime persisted. (Again, no lights or warnings on the dash.) I disconnected the washer fluid low-level switch and the chime still persists. Any ideas?

It's probably not a seatbelt warning since I'm always wearing it when the chime occurs. Also, the flashing seatbelt light on the dash turns off when my seatbelt is on, so the light is working normally. I've owned the car for two years and this just started happening.

Try to capture a video of the chiming, preferably from beginning to end. We might be able to better help you.

Do you have navigation? You or someone else can store points of interest and attach a sound byte to play when in proximity. Great for warning of traffic cams and such if you have the time to program them all in.

Thanks, lotus, that was a good clue to check the nav. Indeed the mystery chime always occurs when the car approaches the center of the small town near my home. The chime isn't related to any of the available audio nav alerts, and none of my programmed points-of-interest is anywhere near this town. The chime also doesn't occur when I drive through any of the other small towns in the area. No "areas to avoid" are programmed into the nav system.

I replaced the Gen 4 Nav DVD version 5.1 with version 10.1 a couple of weeks ago, and that's about the time this mystery chime began. It's still a mystery, but at least I know that it's related to the nav system. Now I need to figure out how to get rid of it since I drive though this town every day!

Tim Hortons paid good money to Lexus to have that alert sound.
