Bettery got flat - engine light appeared
Hi guys,
I went on a 10 day trip and left the car in the garage and accidently left it on "ON" position (smart access)...
When I got back the car battery was flat empty...I jumped it and it started...drew it around and the battery seems fine now but the engine icon appeared on the dash...
I tried removing the negative for 10 mins to try to reset, and it's ok for around 15 mins after (no icon) but then it appears again
Any ideas what can I do, or what could be wrong (before this I never had an engine light on)...

TOYOTA K+CAN commander 2.0
Would it be possible with this device to set the customization items that in principle only the dealer can do?
No one any experience with this?? Or heard of it?
For the amount of money this device costs, it is no problem to just buy and try.
But I am a bit scared to **** up my precious LS430....
Thanks for any help!

OBD II scan tool availability, varies by country.
AFAIK ---The TOYOTA K+CAN commander 2.0, is not widely available in the USA.
Do-It- Yourself type car owners, use brands like Actron, Eqqus, Autoxray, Autel and many more.
I use an Actron model.
Professionals use brands like OTC, Snap On and the other proprietary tools from the manufacturer ( read $$$$).
A simple, basic, stand alone model would do for occasional use.
There are plenty to choose from - like standalone, laptop based, smart phone based and portable GPS system based( a few months back, Garmin introduced ecoRoute, which is a real time OBD II tool).
I may not have given a direct answer to your question , but I would suggest checking the user reviews and sales rank in Amazon, and if the product has good reviews and available locally, then make the purchase decision.

You will most likely need a new battery. It doesn't matter how charged that battery is. I drained my battery overnight and no matter how much I charged the battery, I would get TCS/Check Engine/Etc. lights. My nav wouldn't function properly.
Someone on a similar thread (don't remember where it was) stated that the LS runs on a lot of electronics and has a lot of mini computers that functions sensors and accessories. Even if the battery gets the car to start up, if it's been drained once and is not sending the proper voltage to the sensors, the warning lights will falsely turn on.
The only way I was able to get rid of those lights was to change it out with a BRAND NEW battery. After that, all the lights disappeared. This has happened to me twice.
First time was with a battery that was on it's last legs. The dealer tried to blame it on a module I had hooked up to my car and refused to change the battery UNDER WARRANTY. I took the car home, changed the battery myself and PRESTO. All the lights were gone.
The second time I recognized the signs of my lights going off and my nav and bluetooth not working properly. Took my warrantied battery to Interstate and they determined it was a faulty battery. Changed it out and PRESTO, the lights and electronics started functioning properly again.
Again, this is just my experience.
Out of curiosity, what model/package is your LS?

It's an 2001 LS430, but not UL package (I know that cause my rear seats don't have buttons to move, and in the rear center console you can only switch off/on seat heaters)...
I actually don't know, maybe a standard package...
I have seat heaters (front and rear), pioneer audio (no navi) with 6 CD changer, smart access (small plastic dongle - no key), doors close automaticaly if you don't close them all the way...
I don't know what are the differences in packages so I can't say... :S
Is there a list or something I can compare to (remember this is a RHD market, so it is a bit different then USA)?

Whow...just got back from the dealer...
They reset the code, but it reappeared...
The code says that the Bank2 - Sensor 1 is bad (doe on the computer the values change as the car works)
Is there a way to repair the sensor, maybe clean it or must it be replaced?

2. Here is another:

3.Many more in other Lexus model forums too (not of direct use for LS430, but somewhat relevant).

Ok, to end it all
I went to the dealer and they didn't charge me to do diagnostic, so the error code popped out : P0155 - bank 2 sensor 1
They gave me a quote for the new sensor :
(I converted from South African Rand to US$)
- O2 sensor = ~ $250
- hour labor = ~ $85
Total of ~ $335
I went to Bosch and got an universal O2 sensor for Lexus (compatible with LS430) for ~ $105, and straight to my friends car shop (he has a car lift/jack) so I did all my self
Sensor 1 is not as easy as sensor 2, but it can be done by an amateur...took me around 45mins...
Once done, no more engine code!
