Default Automatic headlight issue

So today I go out to lunch and my battery is dead. When I first got the car, I noticed that the automatic headlights didn't shut off after arming the car. Forgot about it until now.

Guess I'll be taking it into the dealer to get fixed.

Someone told me this was somewhat of an issue, anyone experience this also?

Sorry to hear that, I didn't know this was an issue with the LS. I always press my lock button on the key twice to turn off the lights before walking away.

you press it twice if its on auto, if your headlight on manually then it will stay on even if you press the lock button twice, if i'm correct?

just leave your headlight switch on auto, when u come in the work garage it will turn on automatically for you, and if you leave it on auto, and you lock your car twice the lights turn off......hope this helps Will

No, you don't have to have your lights on "auto" to press "lock" twice to turn it off.

i believe the way it works is like this...
In AUTO mode... the auto feature just means the headlights will come on when the car is running and the outside light (sunlight) is not bright enough.
In ON mode, the lights are on while the car is running regardless of the outside lighting conditions.

Under both modes, the lights should turn themselves off after a preset (C-BEST) amount of time (15sec, 30, 60 i think).

The lights can be turned off if you press Lock 2x on the remote in either mode.

So, basically, your light should never stay on past the 60sec if you have the car off and all doors closed.

The owners manual has a much better description than this too. :P

I'm just use to turning the light off, then back to auto once the car is off. I've had this habit since getting my RX back yonder. However, hitting the lock button twice on the keywill turn the light off too, no matter what setting. Doesn't work that way with the smartaccess though.

You are correct!

Also the headlights will stay on if the trunk is open, and if the lights in the trunk will cut off if it is left open for long periord of time.

I also turn my lights off before I turn off the engine. I think it's good practice to avoid unnecessary use of the battery.

I also reduce wear on my HIDs by not cycling them on and off quickly/often and not using them when it's bright outside.

I always hit lock button on the remote twice out of habit. If i leave the lights on the double hit on the lock button turns them off.

It does work with smartaccess--It worked on the ES350 I traded in for the LS. I used to hit the lock button twice to turn off the lights.

Even if the switch is not on auto the lights turn off after a period of time. It also turns off if you hit the key fob twice even if its not on auto. I forget to turn off my lights sometimes on the on position and it turns off automatically.
