Default Transponder key cracked in half

As I am starting my car, the transponder key breaks in half at the tip of the key where it is screwed together. Does anyone know how much it costs to get a new one cut?

I have an 05 and I bought a new master SmartAccess, had it cut, and programmed for about $240 last week at my dealer.

I assume the 2003 don't have the Smarkey system. I think if you just want a blank cut and reuse the electronics, it's about $60 cut from Sewell Lexus.

Check the GX470 forum -- there's a thread on there that's been up in the past couple of weeks about this, and a seller doing a good job sending out pre-cut keys. I've bought Lexus keys from internet/E-bay and had them cut locally and it worked fine. The ones I bought seem to be Lexus keys sourced from Europe -- they were OE keys.

Thank you I6!!

Im posting the link right now...

I just bought some of these keys and we will see how they work when they get here.

FYI, these don't have the emblem on them. I bought an ebay set with them, hopefully the top part will fit right.

I had this happen about a year ago. Already had a new shell from Ebay for about $15, $25 for the dealer to cut the key. BTW, dealer said the key is purposely not strong as a "safety feature", ie it will break off if impacted in an accident, for what that's worth.

Very much a pain trying to start the car with the broken off key blade while holding the shell by the ignition switch.
