so i just wanted to share this quick story with everyone... i've been driving around in sport mode for the last 6 months or so straight without exception, and this morning my car just felt weird. speeding up to enter the highway via the on ramp felt a little squirly and dangerous, my normal cruising had me bouncing all over the road from one line to the other with ever corner and curve. i found it difficult to enter and exit curves in the road on my normal daily tire track (not that i am paying that close attention, but apparently i am doing so subconsciously). i was really getting a little worried and trying to run down all the possible scenarios in my head about what could be causing this issue, i had no clue. i was thinking my alignment must have gotten out of wack or somehow my air suspension was acting up (higher on one side or corner than the other) but the controller said the heights were all equal (if you can believe this???). finally after exiting the highway i had to go like 5 mph slower than i normally do and i still drifted outside my next lane i was merging into and then back close over to the other lane, like as if my car was a little tipsy (alcohol pun intended), the car just had way to much body roll and the steering felt a little slack then would try to overcompensate and over steer way to much. finally could barely take it anymore while pulling into work which got me thinking dealerships and $$$ signs until i looked down and saw that somehow it had gotten bumped out of SPORT mode... grrrr....
but yeah when i first got the car i really couldn't tell a difference of driving in normal or sport (coming from a gs400 as my previous dd), but i think its safe to say now that i can officially describe in great detail the actual physical feel differences.
Wow, scary. So what are the "regular" (non UL) LS set at then for their suspension? I can feel the LS definitely not sporty by any means, but it's surely not Caddy Brougham softy cream.
I think you were just expecting the "SPORT" and drove too aggressively let's say, so when the "normal" mode was on, it exceeded the expected speed limits.
what you're describing doesn't sound good. if you look in the manual, it recommends that you drive in the "normal" mode except under certain conditions. don't think driving in the "sports" mode all the time is doing the car any good. might want to have it checked based oin what you're describing.
okay well maybe my descriptions were a little exaggerated but nonetheless still very noticeable. i wasn't aware that driving in sport mode was dangerous for the car??
i have read others describing the ls as drifting from one side of the lane to the other under normal highway cruises and hard to keep it in a straight line, well this is more or less what i was experiencing and like alexus said i was prolly just expecting the sport feel, or the tighter feel. maybe??
i drove in sport mode for awhile then i started noticing it felt a little too stiff on bumps in the road. almost like bottoming out. i think im going to try it out again lol
Well, Ive never had a problem keeping my car in it's lane whether driving on the highway or otherwise. i can only speak from experience and what you're describing doesn't sound good.
Driving in Sport mode is dangerous if you start thinking you're driving a sport car... ha ha.
I've never experienced any "drifting" that people have described. If your suspension is true and alignment correct, the car should not drift. I think the drifting was from the driver's brains drifting... ride so smooth, putting them to sleep.
so imagine you got used to a certain feel, everyday for 8 months, now step into a different but very similar setup and it is going to be somewhat noticeably different, no??
if i continued to drive with sport mode off, by the end of the week i would be completely used to it and wouldn't even think twice, but when and if i switched back to sport i would probably then notice a more sporty and tight feel, yes???
no idea but i've read a few other people complaining about this happening in the past.. and probably not or i may have noticed it on the drive home and to work the following day before leaving it in sport mode ever since. but it was a light floaty soft sedan and those do tend to drift a little or float if you will down the road, they just take time to get used to in my opinion.
