I guess I never opened my rear windows while driving for nine months of ownership. I opend the rear window while driving today and the infra-sound (I believe that's what it's called) was loud as anything. What I'm describing is the loud thumping, thud thud thud noise from the wind dynamics passing the car. Makes it sound like a helicopter. This infra-sound is actually louder than on my RX300 (SUV has this issue a lot).
Is this a known issue and does everyone else here have it? I know the solution is to never open the rear windows when driving...
Anyway, just noticed it and was curious about others.
Lots of vehicles have that... Thumping and really annoying.
Besides the RX... never had it before. Our '84 and '90 Voyagers for the POS they were, didn't have this. '95 Civic and '98 Accord did not have it either. This is the first sedan I've been in where the sound is so bad.
The 08 honda accord i had did it also...it was almost unbearable to open the rear windows at speed...most sedans will do that. You are creating a huge vacuum around the back of the car at speed.
Our LandCruiser is really bad. What I find best to deal with this is to open up the opposite front window to compensate. Even just cracking the front helps.
Have you tried it at 80 mph yet? Wow!
I had noticed it at slow speeds when I'm initially cooling off the car after sitting in the sun all day. today I tried it at 80.
I've noticed "Window Buffeting" at some point in every car i've ever owned. I think it depends more on the direction of wind, velocity of the vehicle, and how much the window is rolled down. I'm pretty sure all cars will experience it at some point.
