Default Power Mirror Question

Car = 01 LS430 UL

I supposedly have the power folding mirror option which doesn't work on my drivers side. I am going to try the lubricating method several people mentioned during my search.

My question is this... Is the power folding mirror a special mirror or will any LS430 mirror work?

Thanks,
Jonny

Tried the lubricant, and although it did help it - still did not fix the problem.

So does anyone know if the UL has different mirrors than the regular LS430 or not?

Thanks,
Jonny

My ls430 is the standard one and mines has the fold, tilt, and heated mirror option. I think there pretty much all the same. My driver side just started acting up and purchased an oem one from ebay for around $50. installed it today and it works like a charm...Now the Pass side folds in faster then the driver side

Wink Power Fold Mirror Wont Fold In - I fixed it myself

My 2001 LS430 Passenger Mirror would grind and click when I started the Car and when I shut it off. I called Lexus about buying a new passenger mirror - $850 for a new one from Lexus ...forget that.
I pulled off the door panel, took the 3 bolts off the mirror and unhooked the electrical clip.

Next I took a black bezel off from around the mirror and pulled the glass way from the backing. This revealed 4 philips screws in the 4 corners which allow you to pull the mirror housing apart like a clam.

Once inside I found a broken tab that holds the worm gear shaft had been broken. Crazy glue fixed that. Then I noticed the steel shaft was bent, so I took it out and pounded it flat. Then I put it back together in the reverse order and it worked. I now have 2 mirrors that fold in and out and $850 still in my bank account. This took me about 3 hours total, but it was very satisfying and cheap.

All of these problems, are they a result of not folding the mirrors and then having them accidentally hit? If the mirrors are not folded, can you "manually" fold them after the fact without harm?

When I was going through things to change under warranty on my car, my friend and Lexus Cert. Tech informed me that the motorized folding mirrors going out are common on LS430's. If it's not consistently opening and closing automatically when you turn the car on and off, the motors are most likely going out.

I believe you can fold the mirrors manually, by hand like conventional folding mirrors, as I have had my mirrors manually folded on more than a few occassions, and the motors would still work without any incidents.

incin's problem might be unique. My guess is there was probably some force against the mirrors as the mechanism was trying to unfold or fold the mirrors... maybe by the previous owner?

Ive had mine replaced twice under warranty. After my warranty ends, im going to leave the mirrors in the open position via the switch and call it a day.
