Battery dead - Key too close
Well it happened to us. Wife left the LS430 key in her purse which she left in the car parked next to the LS430 in the garage. That seems to have caused the LS430 battery to drain as the key was talking to the car for several days and of course the car had to answer which caused the battery drain. Bummer
It say in the manual it must be more than 15ft away, and you must keep the key from other electrical transmitting devices, as it will try to talk to them too!
point to note:it say in the manual that you must take the key to the dealer to have the fob battery changed, but I did my self with no problems..

Leaving the key IN the car is OK, its leaving it OUTSIDE the car but in range that flattens the battery, I did it myself not too long ago, it amazes me how it knows that the key is inside and not just outside... but it does!!!

Just bought an 05 on Thursday. I was reading through the manual last night and could have sworn it said that after 10 minutes of "talking", smart access would be disabled to prevent the car/fob battery from draining....
I'll have to look up that page number....

Leaving it inside is probably even worse, no? Well it doesn't really matter as the Smart Key System still detects the key so the light will still blink.

I have never had a problem with the battery dying even after leaving the keys in the car, in my garage, for over 2 or 3 days without driving it.
My room is right above the garage and when i plan on parking it for an extended period of time, i switch the smart access button off. Otherwise it drains the battery. It turns itself automatically off after 14days if i'm not mistaken. Your battery however, may not make it until then.
Must leave key at least 14feet away according to the manual.
