Bought my car used. No second key. Car battery is dead. Went to use the slide out key and the key is blank (hasn't been cut). How do I get in my car? Haha

Key fob is good, even put in new battery. Car battery has to be dead, security light is blinking very dim. I'm assuming the manual key is blank since there are no "teeth". All lines on the key are smooth. I don't have the key number tag thing.

Can they still cut my key for me? Can a locksmith break into my car without damaging it?

Ideas? Of course this would happen to me on a holiday weekend, haha. dammit

 

Doh! Bad timing indeed. If you can find a locksmith, they can cut you one with your vin info.

 

Really? How long does that take? Is it something that can be done in like an hour or is it something that is sort of "ordered"?

 

So someone can look through my windshield at the VIN and get a key cut for my car?

 

I believe the dealership can cut keys based on VIN but I was not aware this information was available to locksmiths. I could be wrong but that is the way it used to be.

 

I would get a battery charger and let it charge for a few hours and you should be good. Happen to me during winter in my garage couldn't even push the car out because my electronic brakes were on. So that's the only option

 

How does he open the hood?

 

Have a locksmith slim jim the car.

Then either he can jump-start the car or have the remote "kiss" the Engine Start/Stop switch

 

Either way its going involve a locksmith is my point...

 

Call your local Lexus dealership and explain the situation. Certainly they have dealt with this before. Maybe they will have a solution that works out best for you.

 

+1 call a couple of lock smiths, get a competitive quote if money's the issue

 

Have you thought to call Lexus? I'm sure they have a 24/7 customer service number.

 

I don't think modern car can be slim jim'd. They all use electronic actuators.

What they will do is slip a small air bag between the door frame and door... Inflate it to get a little space then try to hit the lock release. I would avoid this if at all possible because sometimes the air bag can create a permanent bend to the door.

Wait for the dealer to make a key or break out the little window in the rear doors.

 

Locksmith will be cheaper than brick+window. Don't think Lexus will make you a key without proof of ownership, unless you bought it from a dealer. The fact that your key fob has an uncut metal key tells me the previous owner sold or lost both sets of keys that came with the car. Did you look to see if the spare/tools/lug nut key are still in the trunk? I know hard to do that right now, just thinking ahead.

 

No one here seems to know for sure. No problem, we tried. Call the experts for advice. Lexus and lock smith. They will have true answers instead of guesses.
