Should you Use a Gas Additive for a Smoother Engine
There has been much said about adding various additives to a full gas tank in order to clean out the various parts of the engine allowing the engine to run smoother with much less vibration. Others say never ever add anything to your gas tank. What do you guys think ? Thanks for your help.
I've been using Lucas gas additive to my LS, honestly I don't notice a huge difference or fuel savings as the car is already so smooth. I guess it doesn't hurt.
If you're using top tier brand of gas regularly and highway cruising with occasional heavy throttle, there's no need for any additive. Off brand gas, short trips and never wide open throttle, a bottle of fuel system cleaner in the gas tank at every oil change is probably going to help some.
I've added a bottle of Techron a few times, and a very occasional dose of Marvel and Seafom to the tank, don't notice much if anything at all, car runs very smoothly regardless. It has had very light throttle the whole time in the last 35,000 miles, no "Italian tuneups" either. I'd say if you think your car is in need of some such additives I would be inclined to say check everything else first and don't expect miracles from any additive.
How much smoother can it get? Not direct-injected... far smoother than my 2016 Cadillac XTS at idle. Top-tier gas today is better than when car came out. Engine is like silk with 160k on it. I just do not see the need to play games with it.
Thanks, guys good advice from you all. This whole question with me started because most of the time everything goes smooth but at fewer times at a full stop for a while I could feel some some vibrations on the wheel and my seat and it freaked me out. I only use 93 gas and always keep the gas tanked topped off filling the tank after showing 75 miles driven. However, I only usually take short hops with the car , nothing more than 5 miles or less at a time. That Might be the problem. Thanks again.
