Angry Fan clutch ....need help

I recently was losing some coolant so I took my car into the mechanic he said I should change my fan clutch. So I had him change the clutch and today I picked up the car and I noticed that the fan is Extremely Loud sounds like an airplane propeller. The more RPM I give it the faster and louder the fan is. Why is this happening? My original fan clutch was very quiet and seems to work well.

Aftermarket fan clutches tend to have that problem. Check the manufacturer.

This "sounds" like Indy installed an aftermarket fan clutch.

In any event, it is noisy, so request he replace it.

What is P.N. of fan clutch shown on your receipt?

I'm not sure what kind of clutch he put in there but it's definitely way too powerful. It feels like it's driven directly by the crank when I give it some gas it feels like I'm about to lift off into space.

Sadly I think they grifed you into replacing something that didn't need to be replaced.

They put a cheap aftermarket fan clutch on there. They did not put the right one on. You are losing power, losing MPG and have this loud-*** fan on it. It is not supposed to be like that and will cause excessive wear on other parts of the cooling system because it is unnecessarily over-driving the system.

You're going to have to go back and push very, very hard that they need to put an OEM clutch on there. They are going to spin a lot of bull**** about how it's actually fine, how it's working properly now, how this is how it should be. But it is not fine. The same thing happened to me just after I bought the car. It's not right. You should never hear the cooling fan except for just after starting the car and if you're sitting in 90+ degree stop\go traffic. I was hearing mine spinning down the highway in the winter.

And also ask why did it have to be replaced at all? Losing coolant has nothing to do with the fan clutch. You need to replace the fan clutch when the car starts to overheat, that's pretty much it.

In many jurisdictions the shop is required to first generate a written estimate and parts to be replaced.
The final bill provides hourly rate X labor hours AND parses out individual parts as line items by part number and brand.

Perhaps illustrious mechanic will provide a P.N. and return your old part if you ask after the fact.

If he tells you it was returned for core charge, then ask him who he returned it to.
You cannot trust anyone in the trade anymore to not cut corners or substitute cheap parts.

I'm sure you're not saying that everyone is non-trustworthy. Just that every shop tries to save themselves money in the long run. They are a business afterall. Most indy shops will use aftermarket parts unless you say "I want you to use OEM parts."
Also, you should always ask for any and all of your old parts back, this way ya know they have been changed. You can test it and if that part wasn't the actual problem, you have the proof that they changed it for no reason.

Exactly...most Indy shops will use aftermarket parts.

This forum is replete with posts as to where that leads..

Indy shop should be required to obtain written permission from customer to use non-OEM parts, instead of the customer having to specify an OEM part.

The insurance companies are worst offenders on aftermarket body parts.

so I talked to the mechanic today he informed me that the fan should not be that loud and he will be happy to put on the original fan clutch. I will update to make sure that it is not loud or anything else
