Default 1997 ls400 issues SOLVED

*******2 dead cylinders time to for a swap*******

Bought a 97ls400 (165,000 miles) for $550 on catch was it wouldn't crank unless the gas pedal fully pressed and didn't idle at all. It was about 25mins from house so I drove it back fine just had to keep my foot on gas pedal at stop lights. Looks like the previous owner replaced the cran sensor, distributor caps/rotors, and plug wires before he gave up on finding the demon. So far I've replaced the caps in the ecu (Thanks to the site!) cleaned the maf and throttle body, still having the same issues so I tore down the front to checking to see if it jumped timing and looks good to me so my next suspect is the fuel pump....does anybody else have any suggestions on what else I should check?

Nope no codes at all I tested the cel by unplugging the maf to see if it would throw a code and it did, but besides that no other codes. Also the scan won't connect sometimes.

Try adjusting the throttle position sensor clockwise or replacing.

Also, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you probably damaged your MAF by cleaning it. 97 and before have a strange MAF sensor that works with a little mirror and any residue on that (and there will be if you sprayed it, most likely) will kill it. ;(

I cleaned the MAF on my 97 with electronic parts cleaner and it has been fine for the past 30,000+ miles. It is probably important to use an appropriate cleaner and allow the unit to fully dry/evaporate before reinstalling.

Thanks for the tips but I have 2 dead cylinders so the ls400 is going under the knife for a swap. Maybe I'll start a build thread, but thanks again.
