Valentine One hardwire in LS400?
Does anyone with a 98 - 00 LS400 have a Valentine One Radar Detector hardwired into your rear-view mirror power? Any special tips or DIYs?
I've got a V1 hooked up on my GS (pic below) and want to do the something similar in my 98 LS. Hate the dangling cord.
Thanks in advance!

I use an Escort Solo S2 in my LS430, I've mounted the detector between the headliner and the rear view mirror. This keeps the power wire close to the headliner where it's connected to the roof console for power. I'm not sure this location would be as good for a V1 as the detector would have limited visibility to the rear. I didn't use the supplied suction cups, because nothing says radar detector more to a cop than suction cups and a box stuck to your window. Instead I've mounted the suction cup holder to a flat metal strap that is screwed into the metal frame behind the center roof console. The rear view mirror is dropped 3/16" by placing a spacer between the rear view mirror mounting base and metal frame of the center console. Also a Escort ZR3 Laser Shifter control box that connects to the Solo S2 is mounted to the sun glass holder door.

Very nice & clean install! Thanks for the pics.... I might do mine above as well, like you said I want to make sure the V1 has a clear view behind as well. If I place it above the mirror, I'll lose use of that little teeny center sunvisor in the LS, but I guess that's OK .

Yes, that's right I had to lose my center sun visor thingy (had to remove it). Now the radar detector is my center sun visor thingy Be careful because I pulled down on mine to remove it out of it's ball joint, now it won't pop back in. So I priced one out at my local Lexus parts department and it's like $45. I might cut the old one in 1/2 and stick it back in place (permantly in down position).

Very Nice VideoNavi. Does anyone know of someone that can build the Valentine One into the mirror itself. That way all you have is the rear view mirror with the radar detector built in and the display showing through the mirror when the detector is on and no display through mirror when detector is off?

I know of a second guy that used to do it, doesn't look like he's doing it any longer.

After clicking on the links, I too saw the apexcone website and thought I would try it myself but after doing more reading, it might be too difficult a task to take on right now. Thanks for the help. I didn't think anyone else out there, or my sorry search engine couldn't find anyone.

Although stealth, eating up valuable mirror space is questionable (IMHO). I think they are only mounting the V1 front panel or the purchased seperate remote display in the mirror. At another location must be the V1 unit with detectors. My Escort remote display is a warning LED and mute button in the 430's slide out center console tray. I've measured this tray and it could also house a V1 remote display perfectly.

I only ask for stealthness because radar detectors are illegal in the state of VA, a state I travel to quite frequently. I have heard of stories that if you are caught with one, you will receive a citation and they will take your detector. If the officer sees you reaching and moving around in the car while you are trying to hide your detector and the officer finds this detector, you would then be up the creek with no paddle. If he sees you reach towards your mirror to turn the detector off, when he/she looks into the vehicle, the officer only sees your rear view mirror.
