Recently my radio stopped working - the display is fine, but no sound. when I turn the radio on, I blow a fuse, the power antenna becomes stuck in whatever position it was in when the fuse blows. After the fuse has blown, the display continues to work. Does this sound like an amplifier problem? BTW, this car is a 1993 and the Nakamichi premium sound system was a $1000 option back then. I'm just a little out of warranty, so I thought I would tackle the problem myself. Thanks for any help.
If the fuse is blowing you have a short somewhere in the system. It does not sound like an amp problem. Have you or someone else did any electrical work on the car lately?
what fuse are you blowing? did you spill anything under the front passenger seat? the amp is located there, under a cover, and could be shorting out.
also check your trunk wiring at the driver's side hinge. the wire harness tends to get brittle after constant open/close and shorts things out (usually taillights but the antenna wiring is the bundle too). this is very common among 89-94 models.

At first, you need to understand that there are 3 power supplies to the radio.
1, Acc 12V
2, Constant 12V
3, 12V supply when lights are ON.
I bet the fuse used at the Acc 12V line is open due to the excess current. It may be caused by the short circuit or something. Judging from your words you must have enough skills to find out the root cause. Good luck, mate.
