hi I have a 91 ls400 that I purchased not running. I was told it was going into for a starter swap, but then the guys mechanic started breaking clips and blamed thed harness and wanted the previous owner buy new harness so I traded my 240sx for this car its been months now and im official stumped.. I.went through fixed clips the mechanic broke, and I also installed the starter because the mechanic never installed starter nor put intake and fuel rail back on... I have gone through various things to try get this car running and nothing has changed it..

symptoms the lexus has are after placed everything all things back together, and when I turn the key start all I get is all the electronics turning on, and one solid click sound. but motor doesnt turn over..

things I have tried to resolve this issue..

purchased a new master key, (previous owner only gave me a valet key.)

I placed my battery from the celica in it. (battery he gave us had a drop cell since he wanted keep his red top)

removed the new starter taken it to get tested and reinstalled it....

removed everything to recheck plug at least ten times..

checked all fuses. (none were blown)

I had my friend check the relays with multimeter. all passed

relplaced crank shaft position sensor. (tried 3 different ones from junkyard same response)

I raised the car which is a pain because car is lowered.. and I put a wratchet on the crank and it turns with ease.

I thought about anti theft so I looked up ways to reset thinking could be that being fact its not even cranking over or anything but yet block isnot locked. but I found two different ways...

1. put key in ignition turn to acc then turn off. lock doors. wait 30 seconds then.unoock door and turn on.
that one did nothing.

2. same thing but agyer opening door it says open trunk, close trunk then turn on... my key doesnt open the trunk.. I believe the trunk lock is messed up.. but I can open it with the lever inside the car.

that did nothing... I have officially ran out of ideas. PLEASE ANY IDEAS DO TELL ME. my wife and I are relying on my celica as ttransportation for Both jobs and everything. everynight Ipush the lexus to a new spot in our apt. because mmaintenance is P.I.T.A and will flag the car as immobole and it will get towed again and on count doesnt run gotta pay get towed back its a total 210. so please help.

 

Perhaps the ECU is bad.

 

whats would be best way check that without towing it to lexus?

 

Where does the click sound come from?
From the relay box or the starter itself?

 

at first thought sound of it engaging into flywheel just not turning... but now I believe its coming from.the relay

 

The relay sounds just slightly but the solenoid at the starter makes a big hitting sound.
You need to confirm this before you ask a question.
The ECU is nothing to do with the rotation of the starter in your car. You don't need to worry about the ECU at this point.
If it's only from the relay, you need to check the "80A main fuse" in the FL Box or the cable from it to the starter.

The attached drawing is for a UCF20 but a UCF10 is mostly the same.
Check the red and the dark green line. You can check them at the starter relay of the Pin5 and 3.
Do you get 12V there?



If you don't get 12V at Pin 5, check the "40A starter fuse".
If you don't get 12V at Pin 3, Check the relay contact.
If above 2 are OK, check the wirings of the dark green line and the blue line.

The valet key won't open the trunk... but your new master key should...
I would think if the lock is messed up then the pull wouldn't work

 

I used my master key it wont even turn the lock as if it was a valet key but I know its not as well as before I didnt have access to glove nox till I bought this replacement key. but some odd reason it wont let me open trunk with the key

 

You're right...if it opens the glove box then it's the master key... valet won't do that.... maybe that lock part is frozen or stuck... but more importantly we need to get it started... and I'd follow Yamae on that one...
