Default Trunk emblems off and shaved!

I'm getting the car painted on the 1st. Today I started by removing my trunk emblems, and filling the holes. I really thought about just filling them with some body filler, but I was worried about it just cracking off. I decided to just weld them up. I used a mig but with some flux-core wire, because I don't have a tank as of right now.

Anyway, I'm not a pro and this was my first attempt at doing any body work on sheet metal. Anybody who welds will tell you that flux-core is not the best way to do sheet metal. It's very easy to burn threw the metal and make an even bigger hole! I used the "tack, tack" method. Just keep putting little tacks around the hole until it is all filled up. I put a tack on one hole, and moved to the next to keep the heat down. I also had a wet rag to cool the metal down after every set of tacks. After you tack it all up, then you just grind the welds down smooth. BAM, your all done with that part! lol. Tomorrow I will be adding a little bit of filler and smoothing it all out.

Here are some pics of my progress so far. Let me know what you guys think. I'm happy with it so far.

Isopropyl Alcohol normally does the trick or you can buy sticky label remover.

Got some filler on it today. It's almost done, but I'm going to fill and sand one more time to get it perfect.

I'm not sure who makes it (might be 3M), but they have a rubber wheel that fits into a drill. It works really good for glue, double-sided tape, and pinstripe removal.

Wouldn't alcohol ruin the clear coat?

it's called a stripe-off wheel made by 3M. i used it to remove my emblem residue but the paint needed to be corrected (compound and polish) after using an aggressive claybar to get the rest of the crap off.

Bingo! Thats it. But for this time I used a wire wheel to remove the tape and glue. But I was sanding down afterwards anyway

No problem!

I was just going to say make sure you just get all that stuff off there it's not good for the paint. (you probably are going to paint the whole trunk afterwards anyways)
