Default 91 ls400 no start condition

Well it finally happend. Runnin to the store and she just shut down. Turns over fine. Even acts like it wants to start. Cost me 75 bucks to get it towed a quarter mile. So I'll head out in the mornin and start checkin connections and fuses. Only code to come up was 24. Wish me luck.

Ok started checking connections and all looks good. Did the usual check on fuel pump didnt hear it kick on. Checked relays and fuses- they're testin ok. Did startin fluid thru intake. Wouldnt run, so I checked spark. Nice and bright blue.

So I start thinkin the timing. Pulled the covers off and bring the damper to tdc. Marks are off like 15-20 degrees. Timing belt is soaked in coolant.
So next weekend gonna pull it all back apart and replace every thing that got wet.
Got one question. Tested the mass air meter and got reading of 1.5 ohms @ 66 degrees f. Spec is 2-3. Do I need to replace or can I clean it with alcohol and a Q-tip.

Ok. Finished the timing belt water pump install. And she's runnin better than ever. Did find a few small issues though. The wires for one of the cam sensors was damaged. Had to rig a repair until the part comes in tuesday. All in all happy with the results.

MAF -can I clean it with alcohol and a Q-tip.
Never touch the MAF sensor with anything, just spray it off with CRC MAF sensor cleaner, which is available most everywhere

^^ DO NOT use MAF cleaner on the MAF! All you can do is blow it out. Your Lexus is a 1991. 1995 Lexus started making MAF's. 1995 and before was called a "AFM". It is made differently and uses karmen vortex air meters to detect airflow, IF you spray an AFM with MAF cleaner, this will MOST LIKELY break your AFM, knowing that AFM's uses delicate equipment.. All you can do is blow it with air. LScowboyLS is correct with the statement that you should not touch the AFM or MAF. If you want to replace it go ahead and spend 10 bucks to buy a used one from a junkyard, the early 90's Ls's aren't to hard to find @ a salvage yard.

^^All I know is that sometime in 1995, Lexus switched into different technology with the MAF.

'89-94 model year cars had AFMs. all updated 2nd gen cars (95 model year and up) are hot wire MAF iirc.

so that's why certain MAF cleaners state not to be used in toyota/lexus cars! read the labels folks!

i read the label AFTER spraying CRC MAF sensor cleaner on the MAF of my 2002 is300 . thankfully the car is still running well, and the information here puts my mind at ease !

but MAF cleaner works fine on the IS, it uses the same MAF sensor as the '98+ LS in fact.

MAF cleaner on an actual hot-wire MAF is fine.

ANY cleaner on an AFM is bad.

Ok guys. I never mentioned any kind of cleaner. Only alcohol and a q tip as was talked about in another thread. Thanks for the warning btw.
